Overview:

Use the diagram below as reference when wiring a DS3 N+1 Network. Always connect Transmit to Transmit and Receive to Receive when wiring the N+1 Primary unit to the N+1 Backup. Below is additional information needed.

...

  • The Bearer Circuits on all DS3 IMG 1010's in a Redundant Node Cluster must all be either T1 or E1.

  • The host flags configured in the dhcpd.conf must be the same for all nodes in the N+1 redundant cluster.

  • A license for the backup node must be sufficient to handle a switchover from any of the Primary Nodes.

  • The DS3 Backup I/O will function with an IMG Motherboard which has the FPGA code revision UM 19 or greater. This code can be verified by either scrolling through the LCD menus on the front panel, (See IMG 1010 - System Info Menu) or entering the "*" command from a telnet window. See screen capture below.

  • The Signaling Interfaces on rear of the DS3 IMG 1010 are not redundant. Resources configured on the Signaling Interfaces of the Primary Node will be lost should a switchover occur and the Backup Node goes active.

  • A Backup IMG 1010 can be the backup for primary nodes within a Logical Node Group and be backup for primary nodes outside of the Logical Node Group. A Backup IMG 1010 CANNOT be a backup for a primary node within a second Logical Node Group. See diagram below.

  • CTRL 0 and CTRL 1 should not be used for SIP or H.323 signaling. These ports can only be used for Host Control when configured in an N+1 Redundancy scheme.

  • When connecting interfaces CTRL0 and CTRL1 to the GCEMS server it is recommended that a redundancy scheme be employed. Connect all CTRL 0 interfaces to one Hub/Switch and all CTRL 1 interfaces to a second/redundant hub/switch. Failure to do so could result in an active node getting isolated which would cause a reset of the active node. See IMG 1010 - Redundant Control.

  • When connected in the N+1 scenario do not disconnect the GCEMS server and the Backup node at the same time. In this scenario the Primary DS3 would be isolated which would cause a reset of the Primary node.
