Configuring the StarBox® Voice Optimized SD-WAN for a DMZ endpoint will allow traffic to be passed through the StarBox® Voice Optimized SD-WAN to the DMZ endpoint as if it never touched the StarBox® Voice Optimized SD-WAN, unless it is Star2Star-specific traffic. This will allow the DMZ endpoint to act as the edge device while still benefiting from the StarBox® Voice Optimized SD-WAN traffic shaping and QoS settings.

There are two parts to configuring a DMZ situation - Configuring the DMZ Endpoint and Configuring the StarBox® Voice Optimized SD-WAN.

Configuring the DMZ Endpoint

You will need to configure your DMZ endpoint as a Static IP system with some specific settings to use the DMZ functionality.

• Set up a static IP in the following address range - 10.40.47.x (x not being 1). Star2Star support generally recommends using 10.40.47.50 for consistency across customer sites, so use that IP unless you have some specific reason not to.

• Subnet - 255.255.255.0

• Gateway - 10.40.47.1

• DNS Servers - if you have this information from the ISP already, then use the DNS servers they have given you. Otherwise, use some of the known good DNS servers from this list:

  •     4.2.2.1

  •     4.2.2.2

  •     4.2.2.3

  •     4.2.2.4

  •     4.2.2.5

  •     199.166.28.10

  •     199.166.31.3

  •     38.113.2.100

Configuring the StarBox® Voice Optimized SD-WAN

The StarBox® Voice Optimized SD-WAN also has to know that you are going to be sending all non-Star2Star traffic through on a DMZ. You do this by setting the IP Address of Existing Customer Router setting in the network configuration page. Set it to be the IP address that you assigned the DMZ endpoint in the previous step.

Once these settings are complete, reboot the StarBox® Voice Optimized SD-WAN. It will now pass all non-Star2Star traffic through to the server or router as if that device were the edge device.
