Obtain Configuration Information

Before you begin configuring your E1 PRI interface in Switchvox, it is very important that you obtain all of the configuration information from your E1 provider. Throughout this document we will refer back to this information.

Installing your E1 Card

First make sure you machine is completely shut down and the power cord is removed from the Switchvox's power supply.-

  • Make sure the correct jumper setting is selected on your card (T1 or E1)

...

  • Install necessary card(s) and line(s) to your PBX machine

...

  • Start up your PBX

Configure the Card

To start configuring your E1 card, log :

  1. Log in to the Switchvox Administration Tools (https://your.pbx.ip/admin) and navigate to System Setup --> Hardware Setup, and your newly installed card(s) should be listed.

  2. Locate the E1 card you wish to configure and click the "Configure" button.

  3. Review the Device Information listed to make sure it is correct. You should see 31 Total Channels for your E1 card.*

  4. To Configure Span Options, enter in your E1 information exactly as it is specified by your E1 provider.

  5. Click Save Settings and after the system restarts, click Go to Channel Admin.

*If this is showing 24, your jumper setting on the card is set as a T1.

Configure the Channels

E1 lines consist of 30 Bearer Channels, 1 Data Channel.

The next step is to configure the channels of your E1 card. PRI E1s have two groups, the data channel and the bearer channels. The data channel is most often on channel 16 which provides signalling for the PRI line. Bearer channels are the channels that are used for phone calls. For a full voice E1, the remaining channels (1-15 and 17-31) are all part of the bearer group. Partial E1 lines have some subset of this group.

Data Channels

To add the data channel, click Create New Channel Group. Select a name for your group, for example 'data.' For multi-span setups, you may want to specify the span in the group name (ex. Data Channels Span 1). Under Device Type select D (Data) Channel, Secondary Device Type should be set to No signalling (PRI D channel). You can leave the Callback Extension blank.

...

Scroll down and check the checkbox for the 16th channel on the card and click the "Save Channel Group Settings" button.

Bearer Channels

Next configure the bearer channel group. Click the "Create New Channel Group" button and fill in the Group Name, for example, "E1 Voice Lines." For the Device Type, select B (Bearer) Channel. For the Secondary Device Type, select from the two PRI (Primary Rate Interface) options: CPE Side or Network Side. Your E1 provider should supply you with the correct setting, but most providers use CPE Side. The Callback Extension is the default extension to ring for incoming calls on these lines by default; for example, extension 800. Ask your E1 provider about your settings for the PRI Switch Type, Overlap dial, and PRI Dialplan settings. Next, fill in the caller-id settings that you would like to appear on outbound calls through this E1. Lastly, check the checkboxes next to the channels that apply to this E1 (1-15 and 17-31).

Multi-span users
For multi-span cards, like the TE410P and TE207P, you'll see the full consecutive listing of channels. You'll need to create multiple channel groups to configure these cards. Here is an example.

Group Name: E1 Voice Lines Span 1
-choose channels 1-15 and 17-31
Group Name: E1 Data Lines Span 1
-choose channel 16
Group Name: E1 Voice Lines Span 2
-choose channels 33-47 and 49-63
Group Name: E1 Data Lines Span 2
-choose channel 48
and so on...
