Connecting DC Power

Redundant, hot-swappable DC power modules are located at the rear of the docking station. The power up sequence can only begin when the tray is fully seated in the docking station. This ensures that the main board does not power up until the system is properly seated.

Connecting to a Single DC Power Source

To connect a single external DC power source to the IMG 2020:

  • Turn OFF (O) the existing external DC power source.

Warning! Failure to turn the power OFF at the source may result in electrical shock

.

  • Using the supplied DC Power cable, attach the wires from the cable to the external power source. Refer to diagram below.

Do not connect the wire labeled GND if using the preferred method of grounding a DC version system. Refer to the Grounding the IMG 2020 topic for more information.

  • Insert the plug into the DC power module.

  • Reconnect the external DC power source and turn the power at the external power source to ON.

  • Press the ON button on the front of the IMG 2020.

Connecting to a Redundant DC Power Source

Depending on the model number of the IMG 2020 ordered, a second redundant power supply may come installed in the second slot on the rear of the unit. The AC and DC versions of the IMG 2020 both support power supply redundancy. If a redundant power supply is installed, follow the instructions below on how to connect an external power source. If power needs to be removed from this product the power cord must be disconnected therefore, the socket-outlet must be installed near equipment and easily accessible.

Do not turn off power to the primary -48 V DC module or the unit will shut down.

DC power component

Specification

Input power

Power must conform to the following specifications:

-48 V DC (nominal) 5A

Range: -40 to -60 V DC, 6A maximum (-48 V DC nominal)

Grounding

When connecting the IMG 2020 to ground, the preferred method is through the grounding lug located on the rear of the IMG 2020. Refer to the Grounding the IMG 2020 topic for more information on this.

Power module

Each DC power module has a -48 V DC feed. When using redundant DC power modules, there is a -48 V DC feed on each module. The external power source connecting to the IMG 2020 can be either a single non-redundant power source or two separate power supplies. Typically one of the external power sources is battery backed. The DC to DC power module provides control for dual hot-swappable, redundant power.

-48 V DC wiring

Connect an external DC power source to the IMG 2020 at the DC power module terminals. The DC power module must be wired directly to a -48 V DC fused power source. To connect an external power source to the IMG 2020, either use the supplied DC Power cable or connect using #14 - 16 AWG machine tool wire (MTW). For more information, refer to DC Power Cables.

Caution: Do not daisy-chain two or more systems. Do not wire the IMG 2020 directly to other equipment or to a common bus bar.
