IMG 1010 - Configuration Wizard

Description:

The Node Configuration Wizard was designed to help the ClientView user create a configuration for the IMG. The Node Configuration Wizard was also designed to help simplify the configuration process. The application written will help a user create a new configuration or add to an existing configuration by first asking some simple questions and then implementing the answers given. The Node Configuration Wizard can be started in a few different ways. See below for the various ways the Configuration Wizard can be started

Related Topics:

There are no related Topics to the Node Configuration Wizard. The wizard touches so many different topics. Use the Webhelp online manual through ClientView or through this manual to find topics related to each of the different aspects of the Wizard.

First way to start the wizard:

  • When the user first starts GCEMS and there is already a configuration loaded in /opt/dialogic/common/config the IMG will ask "Would you like to start a new configuration?" If the user selects yes and then opens up Clientview a screen like below will appear and ask whether the configuration wizard will be used. If there is no configuration in /opt/dialogic/common/config (For Instance: First time configuring IMG) the IMG will automatically go into New Configuration mode and the screen like below will appear when starting ClientView.

  • Once the screen below appears and the user selects the Wizard button then the configuration wizard will begin and the first screen that will appear is setting T1/E1 Profiles. If the answer is no then the Configuration Wizard will not begin and the user can now manually configure the switch through ClientView. See screen capture below

Second way to start the wizard:

  • The second way of starting the Configuration Wizard is in Clientview under the IMG EMS object there are two buttons labeled "General Configuration Wizard (Profiles)" and "Add IMG Wizard".

    • If the General Configuration Wizard button is selected then the wizard will start at the T1/E1 Profiles screen like above.

    • If the Add IMG Wizard button is selected the wizard will bypass all the General Configuration and start at the point of Adding a New IMG. This wizard will be for scenarios where the user just needs to add a New IMG to an existing configuration.

Third way to start the wizard:

  • The third way to start the wizard is to highlight one of a two objects on the left hand side of ClientView. The Configuration Wizard can be started from either the Dialogic IMG EMS object or the IMG Name (Physical IMG).

    • To start from the Dialogic IMG EMS object and there is no configuration started yet select Dialogic IMG EMS --> General Configuration Wizard the General Configuration Wizard will begin starting with the IMG profiles. At this point any of the fields can be changed. See 1st screen capture under "Procedure" below

    • To start from the Dialogic IMG EMS object and there is already a configuration present select Dialogic IMG EMS --> General Configuration Wizard the wizard will begin at the profiles screen however all profiles are locked. The only field that can get changed is the filename. See screen capture below

    • From here the wizard will continue and ask whether you would like to configure all the General functions that are not specific to the Physical IMG

    • The second object on the left hand side that can be selected is the Physical IMG itself. Right Click on the Physical IMG and select IMG Configuration Wizard. Once this is done the wizard will look at what is already configured under the Physical IMG object and start a configuration window on something that is not already configured. For Example if the wizard is run and SIP is already configured in ClientView, the wizard will skip the SIP and start with H.323 configuration.

Procedure:

Below is a quick configuration using only 1 IMG, T1 Spans and limited external network elements. It is to be used as a guide for configuring a new system. Not all configuration options will get configured nor will all the options in each screen be explained. This procedure will give the user a good idea how the Configuration Wizard works and a little information on each screen. If the user needs to get more in depth about the screen being configured then the Help button can be selected from each screen and that will bring you to the correct point in the WebHelp Manual.  The Configuration Wizard will be opened using the second method shown above which is to select the General Configuration Wizard (Profiles) button.

Each of the configuration screens will have a button "Set Defaults". If this button is selected then all settings in that screen will resort back to default values.

  • Once GCEMS and Clientview have been started the Configuration Wizard can be run. Within ClientView select the button General Configuration Wizard and the T1 Profiles screen like below will appear.

    • Configuration Filename > Filename to be given to this configuration. We will give filename = T1_Profile1

    • TDM Termination Type > T1 Only, E1 Only, Both, or none are the selections in the drop down menu. For this config we will select T1 Only

    • Create IP Profiles? --> Will this configuration need to configure IP Bearer Profiles such as  G711, G729, etc. Select Yes or No.

    • Create a Custom SIP Profile? > Will this configuration need a custom SIP profile created?

    • Select Next

  • Once selections have been made the next screen to appear is the T1 Profile screen. In this screen the properties of the T1 Profile being created will be chosen. See Below

    • Name > Box will be populated with the name given this profile previously

    • Framing > Select either ESF or D4 from drop down menu

    • Signaling > Clear Channel will be selected for either ISDN or SS7 configuration. If configuring CAS, this selection is in the drop down menu.

    • Line Length and Line Coding values are selectable from drop down menu

    • Select "Next"

  • A T1_Profile1 summary screen will appear showing you the selections made. If any of the settings are not correct then the summary screen can be edited to fix any issues. The drop down menus can be changed at this point. If the selections made are not acceptable then some of the values can be changed in the summary screen. If another Profile needs to be configured then select the button "Configure Another" if not then Select "Next"

  • The next screen that will appear is the IP Bearer Profiles screen. See screen capture below. This is a result of selecting Yes to "Create IP Profiles earlier.

    • The IP Bearer Profile ID > Automatically populated with next available number

    • The "Vocoders to enable" box >  When clicked on brings up another box with all vocoders supported. Multiple Vocoders can be selected by holding the CTRL button on keyboard down and clicking each vocoder

    • IP Bearer Profile Name > A name given to this IP Bearer Profile

    • Go through each of the other boxes in this screen. When satisfied of selections click on "Next"

  • A Bearer: IPProf1 ID:1 summary screen will appear showing you the selections made. If any of the settings are not correct then the summary screen can be edited to fix any issues. The drop down menus can be changed at this point. If the selections made are not acceptable then some of the values can be changed in the summary screen. If another Profile needs to be configured then select the button "Configure Another" if not then Select "Next".

  • Another Summary screen will appear with all profiles created including T1, E1, and IP Bearer. Again if any of the settings is not correct then they can be changed in this summary screen as well. Select "Finish" if all settings are correct

  • Once the Finish button is selected, then all the profile information will be configured. The next piece of the system that will need to get configured is any External Network Elements. A screen will pop up with a list of External Network elements the IMG supports. Select Yes in the drop down menu to any of the External Network Elements that need to get configured. For this example only the External Gateway will get configured. It is already defaulted to yes. See screen capture below. Select "Next" when done.

  • The Configure External Gateway Pane will appear. See screen capture of Gateway Pane below. This pane is used to configure either SIP or H.323 protocols. There are a few boxes that need to have information input into them. Below is a summary of a few of the boxes.

    • Name > Enter a name for the Gateway to identify it

    • Gateway Signaling Protocol > Either SIP or H323 are selectable in drop down menu

    • Gateway Address Type > Gateway can be found by either an IP address or if configuring SIP then the  Gateway Hostname or the IP address can be used.

    • Gateway IP address > Enter IP Address of Gateway if Gateway IP Address Type is selected.

    • Gateway Hostname > Enter Hostname of Gateway if Gateway Hostname Type is selected.

    • SIP Profile > Drop down list of all SIP profiles configured

    • Select any other setting that are for your network and select "Next".

  • Again a screen will appear asking to "Configure Another". Select "Next" if all Gateways are configured.

  • A Summary screen of all the gateways configured will appear. If there are any settings that are incorrect then they can be changed here in the summary screen. Select "Finish"

  • Once the Finish button is selected, then all the External Network Element information will get configured. The next piece of the system that will need to get configured is to create a physical IMG. A box like below will appear. Select Yes if you would like to configure the Physical IMG. See screen capture below

  • The Configure an IMG pane will now appear. This is a selection screen. The user will decide what elements to configure on the physical IMG. The remaining configuration will be a result of the selections made on this screen. There are a few mandatory boxes that need to be filled out. See below.

    • Which Protocols will be used > Click on this box and a "Select Multiple items" box appears. Using the Ctrl button on keyboard the user can select multiple protocols at once to get configured. In this example only SIP and SS7 are selected.

    • New Logical IMG Name > Give the logical IMG group a Name.

    • IMG ID: > Automatically populated with next available ID.Can be manually selected also.

    • IMG Name > The name that is given to the physical IMG. Note: There can be multiple physical IMGs under one logical IMG. In this example my logical is Massachusetts and my physical IMGs is Boston. I can add Hyannis, Worcester,  etc as physical IMGs

    • IP address > IP address of this physical IMG

    • Select "Next" when all information is correct

When SS7 is selected as a protocol it would be expected that SS7 will be one of the protocols that will get configured. That is not the case. The SS7 protocol is not configurable through the Wizard. It will need to be configured separately after the Wizard has been completed.

SS7 configuration is not yet available in the Configuration Wizard. If SS7 is going to be part of your configuration then the  SS7 signaling protocol should still be chosen. This way the wizard will know whether to add the IMG to a Logical Group or not. If SS7 is chosen as a signaling protocol then the physical IMG will be placed under a Logical Group. If SS7 is not one of the protocols selected then the IMG does not need to be put under a logical group.

  • An Add IMG Wizard summary screen will appear next. verify the information and select "Finish". Any changes that need to be made can be made in this summary screen also

  • A Connect to IMG pane will appear. The wizard will go out and find the IMG through use of IP Address and create a physical IMG. All information such as serial numbers, software versions,  licenses, etc will get populated in ClientView under the Physical IMG Pane. (IMG Name pane)

  • The next screen that appears is the Configure Signaling Spans screen. This pane will configure the four signaling ports on the rear of the IMG. See screen capture below. In the example below two T1 Signaling spans are getting created. Select "Next" when all is done.

  • The Configure Bearer Spans screen will now appear. This Pane will configure the 28 Bearer Ports on the rear of the IMG for T1 and 21 Bearer Ports on the rear of the IMG for E1. In the example we are configuring 10 bearer spans starting with span 0.

    • Profile > This is a drop down menu of all profiles created previously

    • Start Interface > Starting Span or Port

    • Span Count > Number of spans getting configured. Select "Next" when done

  • The Timing screen will now appear. The Timing Priority can be configured here as well as the spans that will be used for primary and secondary loop timing. Make appropriate selections. See screen capture

    • Timing List > When selecting this box a list of timing preferences will appear in a pop up box. These timing preferences can be changed in priority. The Timing preference at the top of the list is highest priority and they work there way down to lowest priority

    • Span for Primary and Secondary Loop Timing > Select from drop down list a span to be used for Primary and Secondary loop timing.

    • Select Next"

  • The VOIP Modules in the IMG will now get configured. See screen capture below

    • VOIP Module 0 Address > Give this an IP address suitable for the network it will reside on.

    • VOIP Module 1 Address > Give this an IP address suitable for the network it will reside on. If the module is greened out as in example above, that means there is only one VOIP module installed

    • VOIP Module Gateway > IP Address of the Gateway the VOIP module will be connected to

    • Starting RTP Port > This is selectable from 8000 to 62462. The deafult is 8000

    • Finish all other boxes and select "Next

  • The DSP chips will now get configured for things like accepting tones and playing treatments. In the screen below change the settings for your network.

    • All boxes above are selectable in a drop down menu or can be edited. In this example we will keep the default values. Select Next when done changing the configuration.

  • The next two screens will configure the individual DSP chips. There are drop down menus for each.  See screen capture below. Select the proper

  • Previously we had selected SS7 and SIP to be the protocols that will get configured. The first to get configured is SIP. The Configuring the SIP screen will appear. See capture below.

    • SIP Signaling IP address > Drop down menu with IP addresses for each of the IP ports onthe IMG. Select which port SIP Signaling will be configured on.

    • Default Port for SIP IS 5060 but this can be changed by user.

    • Make changes as needed for network and select the "Next" button

  •  A summary screen will appear. Verify that all the choices are correct. The summary screen can be edited and the changes will take place before moving on. Select "Finish" when all settings have been verified

Note: In the previous configuration not all external elements were not part of this configuration. If however the external elements such as DNS servers, Radius Servers, and SNMP managers were selected to get configured then there would be other screens that would ask about configuring those pieces as well.

  • A question will now appear in a pop up screen asking "Do you want to Configure another IMG?" If the answer is yes then the wizard will start the Physical IMG configuration again. If the answer is no the wizard will quit and ClientView will now have a basic configuration. See screen capture below of ClientView after finishing this example configuration.

  • The Wizard is now complete. All the variables that were selected in the wizard have now been configured. The Wizard will however add a few objects to the configuration. In ClientView the first part of the wizard was General Configuration of Profiles and Gateways. Along with what the user selected ClientView will add Routing object, Translation Tables object, Channels Groups object etc to remind the user that those are objects that will probably be needed and will need to manually configure them. On the physical side of the configuration the wizard will add in a licensing object and a call tracing object. These additions are objects that are nice to have for information purposes. Information on these objects can be found in the online Help Manual accessible from either the ClientView Help Menu in the toolbar or through the Support Site.
