Before attempting to register your phone, log into the web admin interface of your Switchvox: <ipaddress_of_server>/admin
Then login with your admin username and password.

First, plug the phone in and connect it to the network with the ethernet cable.

Is the extension already created? If not, you will need to create an extension for the phone. See SETUP EXTENSIONS Manage Create 6 X

Next, on the admin web page, navigate to Setup -> Phones -> Digium Phones

  1. Click the Desk Phone Assignment Options button.

  2. Write down the Assignment Code displayed (that will be the Global Configuration Password requested when the phone registers).

  3. Click the back button on your browser.

  4. You should see a list of Mac Addresses under Unassigned Phones. You can find the Mac Address on a label on the back/bottom of the phone. You can assign the extension number to the phone by clicking on the yellow pencil, and entering the extension number in the System Extension Line-Key 1 box. Save Assignment.

If you already have an extension setup and a different phone was using it, make sure the old phone is not assigned to the extension. Check under Digium Phone Assignments > Assigned Phones: do you see the extension listed?
Is the Mac Address a different one than the new phone?

  • If the Mac Address matches the correct extension, you are ready to register the phone. The phone will attempt to register when you plug it into a network cable and power source.

  • If it is different, click on the red X to delete the Assignment. Then click on the Assigned Phones drop-down box and select Unassigned Phones instead.

Once you have the phone assigned to the correct extension, you are ready to register the phone. It will attempt to register when you plug it in.
If the phone doesn’t find the server, you will need to setup the configuration on the phone. On the phone itself follow the steps below:

  1. Press the Settings softkey on the phone.

  2. Highlight Digium Configuration Server and press Select.

  3. Press the [IP]/Host softkey

  4. If you have a cloud server, using the keypad on the phone, enter the URL associated with your system (example.digiumcloud.net). If you purchased a PBX (hardware) and the phones and the server are on the same network, you can use the local IP address of the server, or the hostname.

  5. In the Port field, enter 5060.

  6. Press the Go softkey

  7. When prompted, enter the Assignment Code (Global Configuration Password) you wrote down in the previous step.

  8. If prompted, select the desired extension number from the list, or enter it from the keypad.

It can take a few minutes to register and the phone display the extension number and you will hear a dial tone when you pick up.
