Below is information regarding the functionality of the Alternate Odd / Alternate Even hunting option when using software version 10.5.3 SP6 and above. In 10.5.3 SP6 new rules were added when employing the SS7 protocol for outgoing channel selection. The outgoing channel selection uses the value of the CIC number rather than the value of the channel number. Alternate Even will select the even numbered CICs and Alternate Odd will select the odd numbered CICs. There are however rules and limitations to the new functionality and they are described below.

Skip channel 16 and Skip CIC# on TS0 (Multi Span) in E1 protocol

The E1 protocol configuration in the SS7 channel group has the following additional parameters:

  • Skip Channel 16

  • Non-Contiguous CIC numbering

  • SKIP CIC # on TS0 (Multi Span)

The SS7 Link also affects the assignment of the CIC numbers to the channels in the SS7 Channel group. Below is example of how the SS7 links would affect the assignments. If the SS7 Link is in the range of channels in the SS7 CIC group then the channel is not assigned a CIC number. The information below holds true for all other scenarios above.

Additional Information

  • Starting in 10.5.3 SP6 when the hunting options in the channel group object is set to Alternate Odd, the IMG will select the outgoing channel by selecting first available odd numbered CIC. The subsequent channels selected will all have an odd numbered value.

  • Starting in 10.5.3 SP6 when the hunting options in the channel group object is set to Alternate Even, the IMG will select the outgoing channel by selecting first available even numbered CIC. The subsequent channels selected will all have an even numbered value.

  • Feature F-5490 will operate only if the Signaling Type in the channel group object is set to SS7 and the hunting options in the channel group object is set to Alternate Odd or Alternate Even.

  • If the Signaling Type is set to a protocol of something other than SS7, then the Alternate Odd / Alternate Even choices will select either odd or even numbered channels as described in the IMG 1010 - Channel Group topic.

  • If all odd numbered CICs are being used, and Alternate odd is configured, the IMG will then select from the even numbered CICs.

  • If all even numbered CICs are being used, and Alternate even is configured, the IMG will then select from the odd numbered CICs.

  • If a channel has a link configured on it, the IMG will not assign a CIC number to it.

  • Alternate odd/ Alternate even CIC hunting is not supported in JTISUP.
