SIP Profile - Profile Timers

The SIP Profile can be configured to include a group of SIP attributes. These attributes are associated with one or more SIP trunks, channel groups, or endpoints. The SIP Profile (SGP) can then be configured to include attributes such as timers, features, and other SIP options that will make up a SIP Profile (SGP). One of those such attributes are the SIP Profile Timers. The SIP Profile Timer object is used to add specific timing attributes to the SIP Profile (SGP) object. Use caution when adjusting these timers. Undesired outcomes from lengthy SIP retransmits to an increase in traffic across the network may result.

Field Descriptions

SIP T1

The SIP T1 field is defined in milliseconds and is an estimate of the Round Trip Time (RTT) of transactions between a client and server. For example, a SIP Client will attempt to send a request to a SIP Server. The time it takes between sending out the request to the point of getting a response is the SIP T1 timer. By default the timer is set to 500 milliseconds (50*10ms) which in this case the T1 timeout would be (500 ms*64 = 32 seconds). If no response is received the Timeout is increased to (2*T1=1000ms) and then (4*T1=2000ms). Request re-transmit retries would continue until a maximum amount of time defined by T2.

SIP T2

Defined in milliseconds and identifies the maximum retransmit time of any SIP request messages (excluding the INVITE message). The default is set to 4000 ms (400*10ms). The re-transmitting and doubling of T1 continues until it reaches the T2 value.

SIP T4

Defined in milliseconds and denotes the time the network will take to clear messages between the SIP Client and SIP Server. The default is 5000 milliseconds (500*10ms)

SIP Timer D

Defined in milliseconds, this timer specifies the wait time of response retransmissions. The default value is 32 seconds (3200*10ms) which is the minimum value required for unreliable transports.
