Dialogic Media Gateway (DMG) - DMG1000 and DMG2000 Media Gateway Firmware Reference
Table of Contents
Introduction
Each Dialogic Media Gateway contains several firmware files, each responsible for the actions of a specific area of functionality. Because of this is can be difficult to quickly determine what specific version is currently running on your gateway. This article will help you with the following:
Basic understanding of what area of functionality each file is responsible for.
What individual versions encompass each release so you can quickly determine what release you are running and if an upgrade has been done completely.
What special features were introduced in that version so that you know why moving to a newer version may be an attactive option for you.
Where you can get Firmware Upgrades
All Dialogic Media Gateway firmware upgrades can be downloaded form the following web site:
Each upgrade package will contain the firmware needed for the upgrade, an HTM file containing release notes that detail the changes (features and fixes) contained in the upgrade, and an instruction sheet that details any special upgrading instructions that should be followed to correctly perform the upgrade.
As new upgrades become available this document will also be updated to reflect those changes.
Viewing Version Data
You can view the version data of the firmware currently running oon your gateway in multiple ways, either via the web interface (preferred) or via a CLI command using either the Telnet or Serial maintinence interfaces.
Using the web interface requires that you log into the gateway via the web interface and browse to the version page by selecting the 'Version' from the main menu on the left hand side of the page. Thsi takes you to a page that clearly displays each of the firmware subsystems and what version of firmware is currently running there.
Using the Telnet or Serial interface requires that you log into the gateway via that specific interface and use the 'ver' command. This displays a text version of the same data available via the web interface.
File Information
Each gateway contains multiple pieces of firmware. The name of these files is not important, it is the file extension that makes the difference. Below is a listing of each file type, what ist extension is, and a basic description of its area of functionality.
File Type | Extension | Description |
Telephony Interface Firmware | .lca or .ilc | This firmeware file controls the telephony interface and how it talks to the TDM network. These files are only used on the digital station set versions of the DMG1000 series of gateways. |
Telephony Interface Application | .iap | This firmware file controls the actions taken by the TDM front end and has interface specific areas determined by the specific interface type (ie: CO or PBX). These files are only used on the digital station set versions of the DMG1000 series of gateways. |
Telephony Interface Boot | .ibt | This firmware file is respnsible for booting the TDM interface subsystem of the gateway. These files are only used on the digital station set versions of the DMG1000 series of gateways. |
Gateway Application | .app | This firmware is the one most updated and is responsible for all the major functionlaity of the gateway. All actions taken with respect to call processing and routing are done in this application. |
DSP Firmware | .dsp or .msd | The firmware is responsible for all audio related functionality including tone detection/generation, and the packetization of audio into RTP packets. |
Main CPU Boot | .fsh | This firmware can be considered the BIOS for the gateway and is responsible for general system boot up. |
NOTE
Not all gateway models use each of the files listed above. The tables below will show what gateway models use each type of file. A gateway marked with N/A does not use that specific firmware file.
All 1000 series gateways use .dsp files while all the 2000 series gateways use the .msd files for the DSP firmware.
