Eiconcard PAD Installation
Overview
The PAD redirects selected COM ports' input and output to and from the Eiconcard, which in turn uses its X.25 services to send and receive data over an X.25 network. The PAD configuration program allows you to configure one or more PAD ports simultaneously. Global or individual COM port parameters are configured with the PAD configuration program. Local and remote X.3 parameters can also be configured on a global basis or on an individual per-port basis.
The PAD provides you with PAD services for your asynchronous communications package. It acts as a serial port driver, which intercepts RAS, or the output from the terminal emulator inside your PC, before it gets to a serial communications (COM) port. The data stream is then redirected to the Eiconcard after assembling it into packets, and then sent over the X.25 network using the Eiconcard.
The PAD performs the same service in reverse for messages received from the X.25 network: the Eiconcard passes received X.25 packets to the PAD. The PAD re-assembles disassembled data according to X.3 parameter settings and passes it on to RAS or to a terminal emulation program designed for asynchronous input/output.
NOTE
The Eicon PAD service can control a maximum of 250 ports ranging from COM 1 to COM 999. However, each XPAD session uses its own X.25 virtual circuit (VC) so make sure that your X.25 connection is specified with enough VCs for all your users.
If you are only using the PAD with RAS, you should leave all PAD configuration settings at their default values. This does not apply if you will be using PAD with more than one Eiconcard port configured for X.25. In this case the Port settings for the particular PAD ports may have to be changed
Installation
Install the Eicon PAD Driver by taking the following steps:
Set the Eiconcard configuration to the required Protocol and Dialer type.
Â
Open System Properties and start the Hardware Wizard.
Â
Â
Â
Select 'Add/Troubleshoot a device'.
Â
Â
Â
Windows 2000 will search for PnP devices.
Â
Â
Â
Select 'Add a new device'.
Â
Â
Â
Choose to select the hardware from a list.
Â
Â
Â
Select Multi-port serial adapters.
Â
Â
Â
Select Eicon Technology from the manufacturers list.
Â
Â
Â
Add the COM ports you need. (In this example, we have added COM ports 5 & 6.)
Â
10. Select EACH of the two ports in turn and configure them using the panel shown below
Â
Check that the XPAD service is started
After the machine has restarted run NET START ECXPAD from the command prompt.
If the service is already started then you will see...
If it is not already started then you will see....
