End of Life Products and Features - Install or Update a Express for Lync 2.0 Virtual Machine Image

Overview

This page will help with restoring or updating an existing virtual machine image. These images are the factory images provided with your Express for Lync appliance.

Setup new Virtual Machine within Windows Hyper-V Manager

In order to setup the new VM image within Windows Hyper-V, you must first download the required Virtual Machine Image. See the download links above to download the appropriate image.

NOTE: For this walkthrough, we will be restoring the Reverse Proxy Virtual Machine.

Remove Old Image

In order to setup the new VM image, you must first remove the old one. Follow the steps below to remove the old image from Windows Hyper-V.

  1. Launch the Hyper-V Manager from the Windows Start Screen

  2. Right click on the virtual machine you will be replacing and click "Delete".

  3. Go to the path c:\Hyper-V\imports and remove the directory of the virtual machine being restored/replaced. To do this, right click on the folder and select delete. This will send the folder to the "Recycle Bin". Once this is done, you can remove the folder from the recycle bin. This will complete the removal steps.

Restore the New Virtual Machine Image

Follow the steps below in order to extract the Virtual Machine backup, and restore the image to Hyper-V.

  1. Right click on the downloaded virtual machine archive file and select "Extract All".

  2. When the extraction wizard opens, enter the directory "c:\Hyper-V\imports" as the extraction directory. Click "Extract" once you have entered in the proper directory. This step will take several minutes to complete.

  3. Launch the Hyper-V manager from the Windows Start Screen.

  4. From the Actions pane, select "Import Virtual Machine...".

  5. When the "Import Virtual Machine" wizard launches, click "Next" to continue.

  6. In the next window, specify the location of the Virtual Machine being imported and click "Next".

  7. Click "Next" on the screen below. This will just confirm you are restoring the selected virtual machine.

  8. In the "Choose Import Type" screen, make sure "Register the virtual machine in-place (use the existing unique ID) is selected and click "Next".

  9. In the "Completing Import Wizard" screen, you will get a summary of options. Click "Finish" in order to start the import.

  10. Once completed, you will notice the virtual machine is now available in the Hyper-V manager. Select the VM, right click on it and click "Start" to launch the Virtual Machine.
