STM1 Port Mapping

Mappings

  • The mappers map the channel signals to the TUG3 level.
    The SONET/(SDH) STS-3/OC-3/STM-1 overhead terminators map the TUG-3 over VC-4 and STM-1

  • E1 over STM-1 Multiplexing
    C12 --> VC12 --> TU-12 --x3--> TUG-2 --x7--> TUG-3 --x3--> VC-4 --x1--> AU-4 --x1--> AUG1 --x1--> STM1

  • DS1 over STM-1 Multiplexing
    C11 --> VC11 --> TU-11 --x4--> TUG-2 --x7--> TUG-3 --x3--> VC-4 --x1--> AU-4 --x1--> AUG1 --x1--> STM1

  • E1 over OC-3 Multiplexing
    VT2 SPE    ---> VT2    ---x3---> VT-Group --x7---> STS-1 SPE ---> STS1 ---x3---> STS3 ---> OC3

  • DS1 over OC-3 Multiplexing
    VT1.5 SPE ---> VT1.5 ---x4---> VT-Group --x7---> STS-1 SPE ---> STS1 ---x3---> STS3 ---> OC3

E1 to SDH Mapping

SDH/STM1 maps to 63 E1 Ports.

Supported VM Mapping:

  • Only supported E1 to SDH VM Mapping is: KLM  (Interleaved) mapping as per table below.
    Note: KLM mapping is also refered to TUG2 mapping.

  • ITU-T (Sequential by one) is not supported

Table below maps the STM1Mux ports labeled on the front of the STM1Mux device and
in the Channel Status Console Menu, to the ITU (KLM/Interleaved) Standards Mapping.

IMPORTANT:
The Ports colored in Red and marked with X are NOT to be used.
SDH only supports 63 E1 ports, thus the ports marked with X are not mapped to SDH.
Therefore, one should not connect any RJ45 cable into those ports when STM1Mux is configured in E1 mode.

Critical Release: STM1Mux Version 1.7 and higher supports KLM Interleaved VM Mapping.

STM1Mux to NSG Mapping

ERRATA

  • May 29 2014
    On releases before 1.7 E1-SDH Port mapping used non-standard OC3 mapping method.
    On release 1.7 the E1-SDH Port mapping defaults to KLM (Interleaved Mode) which is one of the standards.
    Note: E1-SDH ITU-T Mapping is not supported.

  • Sep 14 2013
    All T1 ports are known to work properly in production environment.
    There are no known issues on the T1/SONET configuration on firmware v1.2
