Phones - Phone does not honor Option66 once configured with EPM
Table of Contents
This is on purpose.
Some users use option 66 for other systems/devices, and it may not be the PBX. Because of this, once provisioned we disable option 66 ONLY IF a configuration address is set in EPM. Most users this is fine as the PBX will now tell the phone how to reach the config server moving forward.
If you would like to change this behavior and allow the Option 66 setting to take priority over the config file setting, follow the steps below to enable Option 66 override using Basefiles in Endpoint Manager. This will force the phone to honor option 66 over the config server as defined in EPM.
Please keep in mind, with this option enabled, even if you have a configuration server set, option 66 will be the only server it checks.
To enable option 66 override:
Define option 66 on your DHCP server
Edit Basefile for template/model
Send update notice to phones
Step 1. Define option 66 on your DHCP server
Option 66 should be defined in your existing DHCP server. Option 66 should be a fully qualified address but does not need to be. Examples include:
tftp://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.1.1:83
192.168.1.1
ftp://user:password@fqdn.com:21
Step 2. Edit Basefile for template/model
If this is being done to move servers, you will need to do the following on the OLD server.
Access the Endpoint Manager module. On the right side, click the menu and go to "Basefile Edit"
Under the Sangoma section, choose the template you wish to change. Keep in mind, you will probably want to do this on all templates that are used.
Choose any phone model, as this setting will be applied to all phone models.
Find option P145 and click on the link.
Make sure that all Phone models are selected, and de-select all gateways to avoid problems.
Verify Type of Device is Phone
Change the Value from 0 to 1.
Click Change Basefile
Step 3. Send update notice to phones.
If step 2 was successful, you will be able to scroll to the bottom of the page and see the following:
Note: P145 is in red, with a value of 1.
Change the selection to "Save, Rebuild Config(s) and Update Phones" and click "Apply". This will rebuild the config files and ask the phone to check for new settings.
The phones should now honor option 66 and pull their new config from the option 66 server.
