Phones - Why can't I update phone firmware or custom ringtones after a FreePBX update?

If you've recently updated FreePBX and found that you can no longer update firmware or custom ringtones for your Digium phones using the Digium Phones Addon for FreePBX, you may have encountered an issue with restricted file types.

Previous revisions of this KB article suggested modification to the .htaccess file in order to alleviate the problem.  Rather than asking users to make those modifications, Digium has completed a new version of the Digium Phones Addon for FreePBX, version 2.11.1.0, which no longer requires such actions.  Thus, users encountering this problem should visit their Module Admin tool and update to the latest version of the Digium Phone Addon for FreePBX.

In this new version, firmware and custom ringtones are no longer stored in sub-directories under the module directory; instead, firmware and ringtones are now stored in the /digium_phones Apache directory, where the .htaccess rules do not apply, and where they will not be removed or bothered on future Digium Phones Addon for FreePBX module upgrades.
