Phones - How to manually register a remote phone
To connect a phone to your PBX from a remote location we need to make sure that the necessary ports are open or forwarded to your PBX for traffic from the internet first. Below is the link to our Knowledge Base article on network configuration, please review the section titled "Port Forwarding" for the specific ports which are needed for remote phones to connect successfully.

Once the ports have been opened, you can then program your phone to connect to your PBX. While the specific steps for programming your phone will vary slightly among the different brand phones available, there is some basic information which is universal and necessary. This information is as follows:
The Public IP address of your PBX.
The Extension Number you wish to connect the phone to.
The Phone Password for this extension
Please note, the Phone Password for the extension is not the same as your voicemail password. If you need to reset the Phone Password on the extension please modify the extension, select the Advanced Options link, and enter a new password in the "Phone Password" fields. This password is case sensitive and does accept alpha, numeric, and ascii characters.
For detailed information on how to program your specific phone to register to a PBX you will want to refer to the manufacturer documentation.
I hope this information helps, please let us know if you have any further questions. Thank you for contacting Switchvox support!
