Switchvox - How to configure a Polycom phone using a Phone Feature pack
This article assumes that all ports are open and the correct Access Control Rule is configured. This is also assuming your Polycom phone is booted into the static Digium/Switchvox logo screen or to a Date & Time screen.
First, we need to verify the Polycom phone's MAC address is visible to the Switchvox, particularly if the phone is on a different network. To do this, follow these steps:
Log into the /admin interface of Switchvox and go to Setup > Phone Feature Packs > Unknown Phones tab. Search for the Mac Address of the phone you are trying to configure, do not search by IP address here as the correct IP may not appear. On the Polycom phone, press Menu > Settings > Advanced > enter password 456 > Admin Settings > Network Configuration > DHCP Menu > set Boot Server to Static (required)
Back out to DHCP Menu > use down arrow to select Server Menu > set Server Type to HTTP > use down arrow to select Server Address and set this to: the IP address of the Switchvox, followed by /pc (example:. 192.168.1.20/pc). The pc must be lower-case letters. If the phone is remote and coming in over the WAN connection, you must use the Public IP address of the Switchvox.
Press Back go to DHCP > Back go to Network Configuration. At this point, the phone should prompt you to Save Config or Save and Reboot, to save the changes. Then the phone should reboot.
It is very important to let the phone fully reconfigure. The phone may reboot more than once during this process. If the phone does not reboot, you will have to reboot the phone by unplugging & replugging it. Wait until the phone reboots and it should eventually come up to the Digium/Switchvox logo screen or to a Date & Time screen. During this time the phone is checking to see if the server has any new configuration/firmware files for the phone. If the server has a different file, the phone will update its files which may result in a longer boot-up to complete configuring.
Once the phone is up to the Digium/Switchvox or Date/Time screen you can start configuring the phone on the server web page under Setup > Phone Feature Packs > Unknown Phones. Follow the below steps to start configuring this phone with a Feature Pack:
Log into the /admin interface of Switchvox and go to Setup > Phone Feature Packs > Unknown Phones tab. Search for the Mac Address of the phone you are trying to configure, do not search by IP address as the correct IP may not appear. Once the phone is fully configured, under Setup > Phone Feature Packs > Configured Phones tab, you will see the correct IP address.
Once you've found the phone, click checkbox next to the Polycom Phone's MAC address and click Confirm Checked Phones. This should send a reboot packet to the phone and then move the Phone's MAC address to the next tab: Unconfigured Phones.
Verify the phone has been fully rebooted before moving onto this next step. If it does not reboot, you will have to reboot it manually by unplugging the phone.
After the phone is fully rebooted, locate the phone MAC address under Unconfigured Phones, click the pencil icon, and type in the phone's extension number > Save. Next, click the checkbox next to the Polycom Phones MAC address and click Confirm Checked Phones. This phone should reboot and move the phone's MAC address to the final tab, Configured Phones. Once the phone is fully rebooted, it will show the extension number and it should be registered.
Once the phone's MAC address is listed in Configured Phones, it is using a Feature Pack. At this point, verify the phone is in a Registered state.
Check this by going to Server > Connection Status > SIP Phones tab > under State it should say Registered by the extension you have configured, using a Feature Pack. If you have any problems dialing out, you should check the Outgoing Call Rules and Digit Map for this extension.
