Switchvox - How do I correct for the second dial tone when using an analog phone configured to an FXS port?

In some instances with an analog phone you will run into the following situation:

  1. Pick the phone up off the handset to place a call

  2. Listen for the dial tone and dial the number as you normally would

  3. Instead of connecting, you will get a dial tone again

  4. You then have to dial digits again and the call will go through the second time

To fix this:

  1. In Switchvox GUI, go to Setup > Channel Groups

  2. Modify the FXS Channel Group that the phones are a part of

  3. Click to Show Advanced Options

  4. Turn on Immediate Answer

  5. Save the Channel Group (WARNING: Any modifications to any channel groups settings will require a restart to your phone system. Any current phone connections will be dropped and any agents logged in will be logged out.)

Immediate Answer

Most likely, you should leave this option to the default of Yes. This allows the analog channel to be opened when picking up an analog phone or a fax machine.
