Switchvox - How do I get a backup file off of a hard drive in a Switchvox server?

We will assume the scenario is that the Switchvox has crashed.

We would first suggest running the Ultimate Boot CD to check the hard drives and memory by following the steps Support Services - How to run Ultimate boot cd on Switchvox to test hard drives and memory .

If the Ultimate Boot CD returns no errors on the drive, the next step would be to reinstall the software and restore your backup.

But if you did not offload a backup off of Switchvox but have one saved on the hard drive and the hard drive is accessible you can do the following to retrieve the backup:

  1. Power down the server.

  2. Unplug the server.

  3. Remove the top to access the hard drive(s).

  4. Remove the hard drive and put it into another computer.

  5. In linux, navigate to the directory on the drive: /var/pbx_backups (If you have any backups stored on the drive they will be in this directory and the file type is .svb)

  6. Copy the file to your desktop.

  7. Put the drive back into the Switchvox server and reinstall and restore following the steps Switchvox - How to Replace a Switchvox Appliance and Software (scroll to the section: "Reinstalling Switchvox")
