Switchvox - How do I configure your Switchvox PBX so that 9 and 1 are not required when dialing?

To automatically dial a 9 and 1 for external calls, below are the steps you would need to take.

  1. Each Polycom is configured with a digitmap string.  This controls when the Polycom phone auto-sends the digits that you dial to the PBX.  If the phones are configured using Phone Setup and tokens, you can easily apply a new string to the phones.  If the phone was configured manually, you would need to update each phone individually.

Below is the default digitmap string that requires dialing 9 and 1.

[0-8]xx|911|9411|9611|9011xxx.T|91xxxxxxxxxx|9[2-9]xxxxxx|*xx.T

Below is a string modified to NOT require the 9 or 1.

[0-8]xx.T|911|411|611|011xxx.T|xxxxxxxxxx.T|[2-9]xxxxxx.T|*xx.T

Below is a universal string you can use (much shorter).

xx.T|*xx.T

  • If the phone was configured using Phone Setup with tokens, you can apply this for phones that are configured through Phone Setup by going to System Setup -> Phone Setup, click the link to show advanced options.  Then enter the string for the 'Polycom Custom Digit Map' field.  Save, then reboot the phones to apply new changes.

  • If the phone was configured manually through the Polycom phone's webpage, you can apply this manually by logging into the Polycom phone's web interface.  Go to the SIP page.  Look for the 'Digitmap String' field.  Submit to apply your changes.

  1. You'll need to edit your Outgoing Call Rules to apply the 1 and not look for 9.

Below is an example of a Long Distance rule that does not require a 9 but also prepends a 1 before sending out to the provider.

Pattern To Match:
Number begins with the digits <blank>.
The rest of the number must be between <10> and <10> digits in length.
Before connecting the call, trim <blank> digits from the front,
and then prepend the digits <1> to the number.

For the Local rule, you chances are you won't need a 1 in front of the 7 digits so the pattern would look like the following.

Pattern To Match:
Number begins with the digits <blank>.
The rest of the number must be between <7> and <7> digits in length.
Before connecting the call, trim <blank> digits from the front,
and then prepend the digits <blank> to the number.g
