Switchvox - How do I configure my Polycom VVX 500 and VVX600 using a phone feature pack?
This article is assuming that all ports are open and there are no Access Control Rule issues. This is also assuming your Polycom phone is booted up into the static Digium/Switchvox logo screen or to a Date & Time screen.
First, let's begin by doing a factory reset of the phone.
On the phone hit Menu>Settings>Advanced>456 (password)>Enter>Admin Settings>Reset to Default
There are three reset options in this menu but we will be using two of them; Reset Device Settings and Reset Local Config, please reset the devise settings first. After selecting each reset option the phone will automatically reboot. This may not occur immediately but please be patient, it will reboot.
Now we need to make sure the Polycom phone's MAC address is visible to the PBX. If the phone is on the same local LAN as the PBX this may not be required but it's still good to do so in case of issues. To do this, follow the below steps:
On the phone hit the Menu>Settings>Advanced>456 (password)>Enter>Admin Settings>Network Configuration>Provisioning Server>DHCP Menu
Set Boot Server to Static>arrow down to Server Type
Set Server Type to HTTP>arrow down to Server Address and set this to: IP.Address.of.the.Switchvox/pc (eg. 192.168.1.20/pc). It is essential to make sure the pc is lower case letters!
Finally, please back out of there until it prompts you to save the settings and reboot. Please do so.
It is very important at this step the let the phone fully reboot after this step. The phone might reboot a few times during this process, just let the phone do its thing it should eventually come up to the Digium/Switchvox logo screen or to a Date & Time screen.
Once the phone is up to the Digium/Switchvox or Date/Time screen we can start moving the Polycom's Phone MAC address through the Setup Tool. Follow the below steps to start configuring this phone with a feature pack:
Log into the /Admin interface and go to Setup>Phone Feature Packs>Unknown Phones (default) tab. Search for the phone you are trying to configure by the MAC address, never search by IP address here as these can sometimes report false IP addresses. Once the phone is fully configured from the Feature Pack the PBX Phone Feature Packs>Configured Phones tab should report the correct IP.
Once you've found the phone to configure check mark the box next to the Polycom Phones MAC address and click Confirm Checked Phones. This should send a reboot packet to the phone and then move the Phones MAC address to the next tab: Unconfigured Phones.
Make sure the phone has been fully rebooted before moving onto this next step.
After the phone is fully rebooted, locate the phone MAC address under Unconfigured Phones, click the modify (pencil) button and type in the Switchvox SIP extension number>Phone Feature Packs>Configured Phones. Check mark the box next to the Polycom Phones MAC address and click Confirm Checked Phones. This should send another reboot packet to the phone and move the phone MAC address to the final tab - Configured Phones. Once the phone is fully rebooted it should show the extension number on the display and it should be in a Registered state.
Once the phone MAC address is listed in Configured Phones this mean it is officially using a feature pack. At this point you will want to make sure the phone is in a Registered state. Check this by going to Server>Connection Status>SIP Phones tab>and under State it should say Registered by the extension you just configured using a feature pack.
