Switchvox - Why does my Digium phone ask for a Global Configuration Password and where can I find it?

Switchvox uses a Global Configuration Password as an extra layer of authentication when registering a Digium phone to your Switchvox server. If you have created server-based assignments, you will not need to enter a Global Configuration Password when registering a Digium phone. Server-based assignments include assignments created from the Switchvox Web Suite, Bulk Import, or the Extend API. You will need to be logged into the Switchvox Web Interface as an Administrator to view the global configuration password.

  1. Navigate to Setup-Digium Phones and click the Desk Phone Assignment Options button. In earlier Switchvox software versions, this button is called Phone Assignment Options.

  2. The Global Configuration Password is located in the Assignment Code box.

  3. If you would like to change the Assignment Code you can, but it must be between 3 and 10 digits.

  4. The Assignment Code will always stay the same unless it is changed and will need to be used for any Digium phone that requires a Global Configuration Password when registering to the Switchvox server.

  5. Once you enter the Assignment Code as the Global Configuration Password on your Digium phone, you will be able to select your extension from a list of unassigned extensions on your phone.
