How do I enable the Switchvox Softphone in the Android Phone App's Calling Accounts Settings?

Enable Switchvox in Your Phone App

The 5.0 version of the Switchvox Softphone for Android includes integration with the Phone App on your Android phone. In this version, you must enable Switchvox in your Phone App's Calling Accounts settings.

Making calls from your Switchvox Softphone won't function properly until it's enabled in your Phone App. So each time you open the Switchvox Softphone, if it is not enabled it will remind you that you must enable it in your Phone App or give you the option to use the app or your phone to make calls.
The Phone App settings are slightly different in different phone models, so we can't provide specific instructions for every device. The important thing is to modify the Calling Accounts settings.

An example of steps for some models of Android phones:

  1. On the phone itself (not in the app), go to your dialer (dialpad like you're going to make a call).

  2. There should be 3 dots for the menu (usually in the top right or left corner of the screen), click that, then there should be Settings or Call Settings (it's different between models).

  3. In there should be Call Settings, or similar, where you can choose to be asked every time you make a call, or always use the callphone, or use the Switchvox app.

Why is This Necessary?

In previous versions, if you were on a call on your Phone App, the Switchvox call was automatically declined and your call rules would take over. This version is more tightly integrated with the Phone App, so Switchvox must be enabled in that app. This integration:

  • Lets you answer a Switchvox call that comes in while you're on a call in your Phone App.

  • Rings your phone in the same way that calls ring your mobile phone number (your Phone App).
