Switchvox - How Can Users Go Straight To Intercom Speaker When Calling Another Extension?

Scenario: A user would like to dial an extension and have the extension answer automatically, and do this on a call-by-call basis. In other words, only have the called extension auto-answer when needed, not all the time.

 

Using the Switchboard you can click on an extension Contact and call using the Intercom icon.  Note: first, you have to enable Auto Answer Switchboard initiated calls to make this work. Go to Setup > Extensions > Manage > Modify pencil > Phone Settings > Common Settings > enable Auto Answer Switchboard.

 

Alternatively, you can do it on the phone in a variety of ways.  You can use a feature code to setup a Personal Intercom feature code. 
This method will call the extension and the user won't need to pickup the handset, or doing anything, to answer.  Using the extensions's Rapid Dial list, you can program the feature code to dial this using an External Contact follow these steps.

 

Auto-answer Switchboard initiated calls:
Under Phone Settings > Common Settings > enable Auto Answer Switchboard initiated calls:
This sets your phone to automatically answer Switchboard-initiated calls. If you click on a Switchboard Rapid Dial Contact, normally your phone rings and you have to pick it up, then Switchvox dials the number for that entry. If this box is checked, your phone rings and then automatically goes to Intercom mode and answers the Switchboard. Then you hear the phone ringing the call to the other number (your Rapid Dial entry).
