Switchvox - How do I use the Desktop Softphone as My tel: Protocol Handler?
The desktop softphone app can be set as a phone to use when you click on a tel: link in a web browser. This is often referred to as click to call or click to dial, because you can click on a phone number on a web page and your phone is used to place the call.
In the desktop softphone app version 3.1.1 or later, use the setting Register as 'tel:' protocol handler.
When that setting is on, and you click on a tel: link in a web browser, the browser will ask you which phone you'd like to use to place the call, and you can choose Sangoma Phone.
If you are using the app as a handy interface to Switchvox, but you're actually handling calls on another phone, you can choose that phone in the Making Calls With dropdown. For example, if you choose your desk phone for Making Calls With, and click on a phone number in a web page, you will get an incoming-ringing call on your desk phone, and once you answer, the call is placed to phone number on the web site.
NOTE: If Making Calls With is the desktop softphone itself, then the call is immediately placed to the phone number in the web site (there's no need to 'answer' first).
If the web site you're using does not display phone numbers using the tel: link, there are browser extensions that will add the tel: link to phone numbers on any page.
