Switchvox - How do I record calls forwarded to an external number?

***Please note, the below steps are only possible in versions prior to 6.6. In version 6.6 and higher, converged phones were removed and replaced by additional phones***

To record a "forwarded" call you need to converge the external phone with the Switchvox.

To converge an external number with Switchvox follow the directions below:

  1. Log into the extension's web GUI. (switchvoxIP/main)

  2. Once logged into the extension click Features-> Converged Phones.

  3. Click the Create Converged Phone button.

  4. Click the External Number button.

  5. Type your dialing prefix into the Outgoing Dialing Prefix box.

  6. In the External Number box type the phone number you would like the extension forwarded to.

  7. In the Label Box type a descriptive Name for the converged phone.

  8. Click save Converged Phone

  9. Next click the green check mark next to the converged phone that you just created. This will authorize Switchvox to cascade to the external number. In order for the switchvox to authorize the external number, it will call it. When the phone is picked up Switchvox will prompt for a pin code followed by the '#' sign. This pin code will be displayed on the screen. Enter the pin code and the phone will be converged.

Next, we need to create a call rule for the converged phone. To create a call rule for the converged phone follow the directions below:

  1. Click Features-> Call Rules.

  2. Click the Create Call Rule set button.

  3. In the Rule Set Name block type a descriptive name for the call rule.

  4. In the Rule Set Time Frame select the time frame that you need.

  5. In the Rule Set status choose Any.

  6. Click Save Rule Set.

  7. Click create Action.

  8. Click call Cascade.

  9. In the Type of Call drop box select the type of call you are cascading.

  10. In the Number to forward to box type the External phone number that was set up above, and click the green plus sign next to the input box.

  11. In the Number of times to ring previous rule before cascading drop down box select the amount of rings you would like the office phone to ring.

  12. Click Save Action.

Finally, the last step is to set up call recording. To setup call recording follow the directions below:

  1. Log into the admin panel of the Switchvox. (switchvoxIP/admin)

  2. Click Tools-> Call Recording.

  3. Click Create Call Recording.

  4. In the Call Recording Label type a descriptive name.

  5. In the Recording Targets click Phone Extensions.

  6. Click the magnifying glass icon and select the extensions you want to record. Holding down Control on the keyboard while selecting the extensions will select more than one. When you have all the extension you need to add, click the add button.

  7. In the Types of Calls to Record area select the type of calls you would like to record. All outgoing is a default setting, and the setting that we need.

  8. In the Call Recording Limit select Until the date/time and put a date in very far off in the future.

  9. In the How Long to Keep Recordings section select the method of storage that fits your needs.

  10. Click enable Minimum Recording length and type a 0 "zero" into the box below the slider.

  11. Click the Save Call Recording button.

Now all outgoing calls for the extensions you selected will be recorded. Including all cascaded calls to external numbers.
