Updating to Switchvox 7.3.1

This article describes Switchvox version 7.3.1 (101592).

Recent Release Notes: 6.7.1.3, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.2.1, 7.3, 7.3.1, 7.4, 7.5, 7.5.0.1.

This version requires version 7.0 (94939). See the article Updating to Switchvox 7.0 for instructions on migrating to version 7.0.  Please note that after you update the PBX, you need to clear your web browser cache after you update, to ensure the new features display correctly.

There are new features that do not have corresponding sounds in the 7.0 language sound packs. In versions 7.0 and later, if you are using a language sound pack and a new feature, you will need to record custom sounds for use with the new feature (e.g., Virtual Queues in version 7.3).

New Features and Enhancements

Emergency Dialing Notifications

This is a new category in Tools > Alerts Manager. A Switchvox admin can subscribe email addresses to this category, to receive a notification email when a phone-user dials 911. You must configure Switchvox so that when a user dials 911, an email notification is sent, the correct outgoing caller ID is attached, and the call is routed to the correct provider. For more information on this important topic, see How do I Set Up Switchvox for Emergency Dialing?

TLS/SRTP

TLS/SRTP is offered as a SIP Transport option for Sangoma phone extensions. This encrypts the communication between the Sangoma phone and Switchvox. TLS/SRTP is supported on line 1 of a Sangoma phone (D6X and D80), for Main and Additional phone extensions.

Important things to understand before using TLS/SRTP to encrypt communications:

  • This requires an SSL certificate from a trusted authority. After you install the certificate (Server > HTTPs & Proxy), then TLS/SRTP is found as a SIP Transport option in an extension’s Digium Phone Settings, under the Advanced settings. An organization-level, extended certificate is not required, and a wildcard certificate can be used. But the certificate cannot be self signed, it must come from a trusted authority.

  • Changing the SIP transport causes the phone to reboot. We recommend that you do this outside of business hours.

  • If you have remote Sangoma Phones, please see How do I set up my network for Switchvox to ensure that your network environment is configured correctly. Port 5061 must be forwarded to Switchvox.

  • Only the communication directly between the Sangoma phone and Switchvox is encrypted. The extension's voicemail and call recordings are not encrypted.

  • Encrypted calls use more hardware resources, so be sure that you have the resources available. Encrypting your calls could use up to 20% more of your hardware resources than unencrypted calling.

  • Packet captures of encrypted data cannot be used to troubleshoot calling issues. In the event that you are experiencing calling issues, Sangoma Technical Support will first need to configure a Sangoma phone on your Switchvox to use UDP, to narrow down the cause.

General Enhancements

  • The Alerts Manager Security category now includes an alert when a custom SSL certificate is expired. If you have installed an SSL certificate to support TLS/SRTP, it's important to keep that active.

  • The Switchvox for Salesforce Lightning app now attempts to separate the caller ID first and last names into those fields when creating a new Salesforce record. Previously, the entire caller ID name was used in one field.

Issues Resolved

  • URLs in Voicemail notification email are now using the correct Switchvox location.

  • The On New Voicemail Event Trigger now works correctly, after failing in version 7.3.

  • A queue member who is paused in one queue will now receive lower-priority calls from other queues they are logged into. In version 7.3, higher-priority calls were blocking lower-priority calls unless the member logged out of the queue with the higher priority calls.

  • Changing from Manual time to NTP now immediately updates the system time.

  • The Current Calls page now correctly displays Call From as the dialing extension rather than the outgoing-external caller ID.

  • Digium IP Phones firmware updates: 2.9.2 for D6X, and 1.12.1 for D80.
