IMG 1010 - Configuring DNS for SIP

For SIP gateway lookups when the gateway IP Address is not known, you can configure DNS servers to locate SIP servers based on Host Name. Up to fifteen total DNS and ENUM servers combined can be configured. For example, the IMG supports fifteen ENUM servers and zero DNS servers or Fifteen DNS Servers and zero ENUM servers. Any combination of DNS to ENUM servers is supported as long as the total combined is no more than fifteen. Lookup for SRV Records support was added to the IMG. Configuring DNS Servers

  • Right-click External Network Elements and select New DNS Servers.

    • Up to and including software version 10.5.3 the DNS Servers pane had the Domain Name field as displayed here:

    • DNS Servers In software 10.5.3 ER1 the functionality changed so that the DNS Query Type can be just an A-Record, just SRV Record or both A-Record and SRV Record:

  • In the Domain Name field, enter the Domain Name of your network.

  • Select from drop down menu which type of query to perform. A-Record, SRV Record, or both. (10.5.3 ER1 only)

  • Right click DNS Servers and select New DNS Server


    The DNS Server pane appears:

  • Enter a name to identify the DNS server and enter a Server IP Address.

  • Repeat preceding 2 steps for each server (up to 15 total).

Configure DNS Clients on an IMG

Perform the following for each IMG for which you require DNS Server access:

  • Right-click the physical IMG entry and select New DNS Client.


The DNS Client pane appears (see IMG 1010 - DNS Client):

The DNS Client Network Interface field is automatically populated with the IP Address of the IMG.

  • For each field: Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Server, select a DNS server (which you have previously configured) from the drop-down list.
