How to create a Ring Rule for external calls

Ring Rules control how your phone rings (or doesn't ring) when you receive an incoming call. Ring Rules define conditions for callers or kinds of calls, and then define what the phone does when those calls come in. A Ring Rule can play a specific ringtone for defined Call Types. Available Call Types are; direct calls, queue calls, internal calls, external calls, and all calls.

To create a Ring Rule for external calls, complete the following steps:

  1. Log into your extension's webtool browser (https://<PBX IP Address>/main), or from the Switchvox admin select Setup -> Extensions -> Mange -> extension number -> Login as this User (door icon).

  2. Select Features -> Phone Features -> Ring Rules tab.

  3. Select the Create Ring Rule button.

  4. Populate the following fields:

    • Rule Name: External Caller

    • Ring Type : Standard Ring

    • Ringtone: Alarm (or select another ringtone)

  5. Click Save Ring Rule.

  6. Select the Create Ring Rule Condition button.

  7. Select Call Type -> External Calls -> Save Condition.

To activate your new Ring Rule, move it to the top of the Ring Rules list.

NOTE: Ring Rules only apply to your Main phone, not your Additional phones.
