What is the difference between Assisted Or Blind Transfer?

A Blind Transfer is when you transfer the caller to another extension or ring group (queue), without waiting for the target agent to pick up first. It is an immediate, unannounced transfer of the call to the destination number. An Assisted Transfer (or warm transfer) is when you announce the call to the destination, before actually completing the transfer of the call. Or, you wait for the target extension to pick up before transferring (even if you do not announce the call).

How is the Caller ID affected on call transfers?

In Switchvox version 6.2 and above, both Assisted and Blind Transfers will pass the Caller ID of the party who originated the call. For Assisted transfers, the original Caller ID will show after the extension transfers the call. In previous versions, only Blind Transfers passed the originating caller ID.

Caller ID settings on Blind transferred calls (v.6.3 and higher):

  • Internal to Internal calls: transferee sees target Caller ID, target sees transferee Caller ID

  • External to Internal calls: transferee is unchanged Sees number dialed, target sees transferee Caller ID (originating caller's Caller ID)

  • Internal to External calls: transferee sees target, target sees Caller ID based on outgoing Caller ID Rule of transferee, if applicable, or the VoIP Provider Caller ID settings under Setup > VoIP Provider > Caller ID Settings tab

  • External to External calls: transferee is unchanged, target sees transferee Caller ID

Note: When using a Rapid Dial Key to transfer a call, it will perform an Assisted Transfer (default setting), unless you have the Blind Transfer Rapid Dial setting enabled.

  • Login to the extension as a user and go to Features > Phone Features > Rapid Dial Favorites > Digium Phone Options > Blind Transfer Rapid Dial set to YES.
