Overview:

The IMG at certain times needs to be taken out of service for maintenance or to upgrade software. The Graceful Shutdown feature gives the IMG the ability to gracefully divert traffic away before performing these tasks. This feature gives the IMG the ability to take any or all configured channels within the system out of service (OOS) without disconnecting active calls. Connected Channels with active calls on them will not be taken out of service until the calls have been released. Once the channel has been torn down it is returned to the idle state then the channel is taken out of service. The Graceful OOS can be used in two ways.

  • The Graceful Shutdown can be accomplished on a single channel or range of channels. To take a single channel or range of channels OOS, highlight either the b-channels in ISDN, the cics in SS7, or the CAS Channels in CAS under each channel group. See screen capture below detailing each channel groups circuits

  • Once one of the following circuits are selected, the Object table will display all the circuits along with there service state. Highlight the spans that you would like to take OOS. Below is screen capture of ISDN b-channels being taken Gracefully out of service:

  • The selected channels will go OOS:

  • To bring channels back into service you can highlight the channels and then right click and select 'In Service'. This will bring the highlighted channels back into service.

  • To bring all channels on the Node back into service right click on IMG EMS pane and select Graceful Out Of Service as explained in the Node Level above. This will open the Graceful Out Of Service window. Once open select INS and all channels TDM and IP will be brought back into service. This is an easy way of bringing all channels back into service globally.
