Prerequisites

  • Before configuration can begin you must acquire the Originating Point Code (OPC) and Adjacent Point Code (APC) for the stack being configured. Once these Point Codes have been acquired the configuration can begin.

  • In order to create links and CIC's the IMG must have spans configured on it. Assign and configure spans on the IMG.

When configuring span profile be sure to configure them as Clear Channel which is what the spans need to be configured as in order to configure SS7 signaling

Procedure

Creating an SS7 Signaling Entry

  • Create an SS7 signaling entry under the Physical IMG object. Right-click on the Physical IMG object and select New Signaling. A Signaling object will get created. Commit the current object.

  • Right-click on the Signaling object created and select New SS7. An SS7 Standalone object will get created. Commit the current object.

  • The Redundancy Configuration Field in this object is defaulted to Standalone.

  • If not configuring redundant SS7 nodes leave the Redundancy Configuration field at Standalone. The Peer Logical Node ID field does not apply in this situation.

  • If you are configuring redundant SS7 nodes set the Redundancy Configuration field to Primary and in the Peer Logical Node ID field select the Secondary SS7 node. If you are configuring redundant SS7 nodes see the IMG 1010 - Configuring SS7 Redundancy - 10.5.0 topic for more information before moving to "Configuring SS7 Signaling Stacks" below.

Configuring SS7 Signaling Stacks

  • Under the SS7 Standalone object is where the SS7 signaling stack objects will be created. Right-click the SS7 Standalone object and select New SS7.

  • The SS7 Stack object will appear.

  • The Stack ID field is automatically populated with the next available number (0-3).

In 10.5.0, ClientView supports the ability to create up to 16 seperate signaling stacks. However, only 4 signaling stacks can be configured under each IMG Logical node.

  • Configuring multiple signaling stacks allows the IMG to interface with multiple SS7 networks. Signaling stacks are automatically assigned to SS7 objects (links, link sets, routes) as each object is configured.

Configuring SS7 Signaling Link Sets

In Software 10.5.1+ the IMG 1004 supports configuring links on a "Remote Node". The IMG1004 supports configuring up to 4 links. This gives the IMG 1004 the ability to terminate links. This is supported as remote nodes only.

 Overview on Signaling Link Sets

  • A "signaling link set" is an abstract path between the IMG and an APC (Adjacent Point Code). Within each linkset multiple physical signaling links are added. The same signaling stack must be assigned to all links in a link set. A typical configuration consists of two link sets.

  • Signaling links in a link set are “load sharing” that is, signaling traffic is distributed equally on the links to optimize efficiency.

  • When you configure multiple stacks, the Link Set IDs assigned to each signaling stack must be different. For example, if Link Set ID is assigned to Stack 1, it cannot also be assigned to Stack 2.

  • Right-click the desired SS7 Stack entry and select New Link Set. The SS7 Link Set pane appears

  • The Link Set ID field is automatically populated with the next available number.

  • In the APC (Adjacent Point Code) field, enter the point code of the adjacent node to which this link set will be connected.

The format of the APC will follow the same rules in the SS7 stack. For example if the OPC is ITU 97, which follows the format of 3-8-3, the APC should also be running ITU 97 and should follow the format of 3-8-3

  • A "signaling link" is a point-to-point connection between two SS7 point codes (For example: An IMG and an STP). The signaling link is configured under the Signaling Link Set. The place holder assigns a physical location in the IMG (timeslot) and a previously configured Signaling Link Set to a signaling link.

  • When you configure multiple stacks on the IMG, the Link IDs assigned to each signaling stack must be different. For example, if Link ID:1 is assigned to Stack 1, it cannot also be assigned to Stack 2.

Configuring SS7 Signaling Links

  • Right-click the desired SS7 Link Set and select New SS7 Link. The SS7 Link pane appears

  • The Primary/Secondary field is set to Primary by default. If this is a redundant IMG and you are configuring links on a secondary IMG for redundancy, select Secondary from the drop down menu

  • The Link ID field is automatically populated with the next available number.

If the links are on a Primary IMG 1010 the available range of the link id is from 0 to 63. If the links are on a Secondary IMG 1010 the available range of the link id is from 64 to 127.

  • The signaling link will need to be configured on a Span/Channel. The Interface - Offset field drop-down menu will include all spans configured on the IMG. By default the first available span is displayed. Select which span to configure the signaling link on

  • The Channel field has a drop down menu with all available channels on that Interface - Offset. Select a channel.

Configure Signaling Routes

Overview on SS7 Signaling Routes 

  • The IMG supports up to 512 routes which are identified by a Route ID.

  • A Destination ID defines the relationship of a signaling stack and a specific DPC (Destination Point Code). The IMG will support connecting to 128 different DPC's.

  • When you configure multiple SS7 stacks, the Route ID's assigned to each signaling stack must be different. For example, if Route ID:1 is assigned to Stack 1, it cannot also be assigned to Stack 2.

Configuring SS7 Signaling Routes

  • Right-click SS7 Stack and select New SS7 Route.

  • The SS7 Route pane appears.

  • The Route ID field is automatically populated with the next available number. A drop down menu will allow Route ID's from 0 to 511.

  • The Route Type field is automatically populated with New Route. This field has a drop down menu with other selections for when configuring combined link sets. Use the default if not configuring combined link sets.

  • In the New DPC field, enter the DPC for this network.

    • For ITU, the point codes range from 0-0-0 to 7-255-7.

    • For ANSI, the point codes range from 0-0-0 to 255-255-255.

  • The Existing DPC field is automatically populated with the same value as you entered in the New DPC field unless combined Link Sets are being configured. If combined link sets are being configured then the option of entering a DPC is allowed.

  • In the Priority field, select the priority to assign to the route when there are multiple routes to the same destination (valid range:0-35).

  • Use the Comments field to enter a meaningful name to identify the route.
