IMG 1010 - DS3 Physical Span Configuration - 10.5.x

Description:

A DS3 line (also known as a T-3) is an ultra high-speed connection capable of transmitting data at rates up to 45 Mbps. A DS3 line is equal to approximately 672 (28 Spans * 24 DSO's) regular voice-grade telephone line. A DS3 line is comprised of 28 T1 lines, each operating at total signaling rate of 1.544 Mbps. Use this pane to configure a DS3 Interface. Once the TDM DS3 object is created the individual DS1's will need to be configured.

Accessing this Pane:

Dialogic IMG EMS -> Logical IMG -> Physical IMG -> Facility -> TDM DS3

Maximum Objects:

1 per Physical IMG

Procedure:

  1. Right-click Facility and select New TDM DS3.

  2. The Bearer ID:0 Pane appears. See Below

ClientView DS3 Bearer Pane

Field Descriptions:

DS3 Framing Type:

M13- A type of framing that multiplexes individual DS1 channels to a DS3 Channel

CBIT (default)- M13 Framing with CBIT bit stuffing for synchronous operation.

Component ID:

Bearer - Automatically Populated and cannot be changed

Interface ID:

Automatically populated with ID:0

Line Length:

Line length is selectable from a drop down menu. The selections are

  • 0-225 ft (Default)

  • 226-450 ft

The next few fields below relate to DS3 Loopback testing. See IMG 1010 - DS3 Diagnostics for more information.

DS3 and DS1 FEAC Responses ( Far End Alarm and Control Channel Responses):

Enabling this option allows loop-back to be configured from any “far-end” equipment connected on the other end of the line. These can be used to send and receive loop up codes and information from the far end T3 device. You can enable and disable through a drop down menu in this field.

  • Enable

  • Disable (Default)

FEAC alarms are sent from the remote end device towards the local device by means of the C bit in the Sub-frame. When a failure is declared on the remote end unit this is how it notifies the near end unit. Some FEAC Codes are shown below

FEAC Codes can be sent to put remote end equipment in loopback mode. There is a specific FEAC code to request ALL DS1's be put in loopback. There are also specific FEAC codes for each individual span offset. The local IMG can request that the far end put all DS1's in loopback (Send FEAC code to put ALL DS1's in loopback on remote node).  If only one DS1 offset (for example offset 14) needs to be put in loopback then the local IMG CAN send the code value that corresponds to offset 14. Below are a few codes to accomplish this.

DS3 Loopback Mode:

  • No Loopback (Default) - Normal Operation

  • Local Loopback - Loops back the complete DS3 (Including Signaling/Framing) so that a far end piece of equipment can send a test such as a BERT test towards the local IMG.

  • Remote Loopback (CBIT Only)- The local IMG sends out a FEAC code to a far end piece of equipment telling it to go into loopback mode (Including Signaling/Framing) so the local IMG can send out a test such as the BERT test.

All DS1s Loopback Mode:

  • No Loopback (Default) - Normal Operation

  • Local Loopback - loops all of the individual DS1s within the DS3 but the DS3 framing\signaling is not looped back, “DS1 loop back” loops a single DS1 within the DS3.

  • Remote Loopback (CBIT Only)- The local IMG sends out a FEAC code to a far end piece of equipment telling it to loop all of the individual DS1s within the DS3 but the DS3 framing\signaling is not looped back.

Following the request to put DS1 offset 14 in loopback, you CANNOT make another request for loopback on another span without first taking span 14 out of loopback.

Monitoring Fields:

DS3 Status:

Gives a status of DS3. (Inservice, Out of Service, Receiving Red, etc)

FEBE Count (Far End Block Errors Count):

Are used to indicate framing or CP bit parity errors from the transmitter.

DS3 Loopback Status:

Shows Status of DS3 Loopback Mode.

All DS1 loopback Status:

Shows Status of ALL DS1 Loopback Mode.
