IMG 1010 - BERT Test

BERT (Bit Error Rate Test)

Description:

The BERT test is utilized on an IMG with the DS3 interface. This pane is used to test the quality of DS3 links and troubleshoot problems. The Bit Error Rate Test sends out a known bit pattern and verifies the received bits against the set pattern. Use this pane to initiate a BERT test.

Accessing this Pane:

Dialogic IMG EMS -> Logical IMG -> Physical IMG -> Facility -> TDM DS3 -> BERT Tests DS1 Tests

Field Descriptions:

Test Mode:

Disable (Default)- BERT test is disabled.

DS1 Test- Run BERT test on only one DS1.

DS3 Test- Run BERT test on entire DS3. DS1’s need not be configured when testing the entire DS3 circuit.

DS1 Offset:

Not Used- If running a DS3 test this field will default to Not Used.

Bearer Offset- If the Test Mode field is set to DS1 Test, this field is used to select which DS1 that the BERT will be run on.

Monitor/Generate:

Monitor Only (Default) - Monitors the bit pattern being received. This could be used to monitor a bit pattern sent from another source.

Generate Only - Generates and sends a bit pattern

Monitor and Generate - Generates and sends a bit pattern, while monitoring the bit pattern being received

Pattern:

All Ones (Default)- Send out a pattern containing all 1's. Ex: 1111111

Alternating 01- Send out a pattern oscilating 1' and 0's. Ex: 0101010

PRBS15- Send out Pseudo Random Bit Sequence Pattern PRBS15.

PRBS20- Send out Pseudo Random Bit Sequence Pattern PRBS20.

PRBS23- Send out Pseudo Random Bit Sequence Pattern PRBS23.

QRSS- Send out a Quasi Random Signal Source which generates every combination of a 20 bit word, repeats every 1,048,575 bits, and suppresses consecutive zero's to no more than 14.

User Defined- Send out a custom pattern of bits. If the User Defined field is set as a pattern, you must enter the pattern in the User Defined field explained below.

User Defined:

Not Used- This field defaults to 'Not Used' if the 'Pattern' parameter explained above is set to anything other than 'User Defined'

User Defined- If the 'Pattern' parameter above is set to 'User Defined', you must enter a custom pattern in this parameter.

Test Pattern Framing:

Framed DS1 test Pattern (Default) - Execute the BERT test with DS1 Framing Bit Included

Unframed DS1 Test Pattern - Execute the BERT test with DS1 Framing Bit Included

Monitoring Fields:

Monitor Status:

This is the status of the object that is being monitored, since this is a BIT Map these fields could be concatenated together.

Bits Received:

This is the amount of Bits received in Megabits.

Errors Received:

This is the amount of bit errors received.

Elapsed Time:

This is the length of the time the test has been enabled.

Buttons

Toggle Error Mode

Clicking this button enables the sending of errors on the span. Clicking it again disables it. You can see if this is enabled or disabled in the Error Mode information field.

RESTART

Click this button to re-start the test. This resets the Bits Received, Errors Received and Elapsed Time values to 0.
