What is voicemail callout?

When you dial into your own voicemail box in order to check your messages, there is an option to place an outbound call that we call "voicemail callout".

See Voicemail System Options for a full list of all the administrative options available within the voicemail system as well as the keypresses to navigate to these options.

How do I use it?

You would use this particular option by doing the following:

  1. Call into your voicemail box (press the key on your phone or read How do I check or administer my voicemail remotely? if you are remote)

  2. Press 3 for advanced options

  3. Press 4 for voicemail callout

  4. Follow the system prompts to dial the number you wish to call

  5. Your outgoing Caller ID will match your company's Global Caller ID so it appears that you are calling the person from your office.

It doesn't work for me - is it enabled?

Voicemail callout is NOT enabled by default for any extension.  The very simple reason for this is security.  If someone knew your extension and voicemail pin code, they could make outbound calls using your extension!

Enable Voicemail Callout

  1. Login to the web admin interface (only administrators can approve this function)

  2. Click Extensions --> view extensions

  3. Click on the extension you wish to edit

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page, set Enable CallOut to yes

  5. Click Apply All Changes

Voicemail Callout Security

Use a secure code

It's extremely important that you change your voicemail PIN code often and NEVER use an easy-to-guess code like 1234.

Change your PIN

Fonality recommends that you change your pin code after an employee leaves or if you think someone has gained access to it.
