What are Departments?

As of the the X.1 release of the Fonality Admin Panel - a new option is available under the Extensions page.  Fonality Departments is a new way to organize the employees in your organization for the upcoming HUD3 product.

With Departments, your HUD3 Client will display all company Contacts sorted by their individual Department.  This makes it easy for larger organizations to quickly hide company contacts that they do not need constantly displayed on their screen.  All Departments show up by default, so you are not losing access to any contact, but using Departments an administrator can configure "groups" for every HUD3 Client automatically.

In the image above you can see that Fonality's Administrator has configured Departments, and all the individuals who are members of a specific Department show up in the Contacts view.  In this example, I have removed some Departments from view by un-checking the box next to a Department.  This way, I can only see the individuals that I work with most often.

Of course my other contacts have not disappeared for good, but for the moment, they are hidden from view.

Configuring Departments

  1. Click on Extensions --> groups

  2. If you are creating a new Group/Department - check the Department option, and fill out all the other fields.  You may wish to read How to: Configure HUD Permissions which describes the permissions process in detail and uses the HUD2 application as a reference.

  3. Assign your Department an Extension number (this extension will be used when you perform a Group Page or Group Intercom, etc.)

  4. Add people to your Department

  5. Add permissions to your Department

  6. Add the group or groups at the bottom that the individuals at the top have permissions over

  7. Click Create Group / Department

Alternatively, if you are editing an existing group and making it into a Department:

  1. Select an existing Group from the list

  2. Check the box next to Department

  3. Click Update Group
