IMPORTANT: this article describes Switchvox versions 7.x. See How to Set Up and Manage Switchvox for the Desktop Softphone App if you are on Switchvox 8.0.1 or later.

The Desktop Softphone App is a Switchvox Phone for Windows or mac OS.

Use the Switchvox Admin Suite (/admin) to assign the app to a phone extension.

  1. Navigate to the extension that will use the app.

  2. Open Setup > Manage to find the Manage Phone tool for an extension. Or create an extension, then click Manage Phones for that new extension.

  3. For the extension (a Main extension or an Additional Phone extension), choose Softphone: Desktop.

To set the correct networking parameters as required if any extension is using the app:

  1. For remote users, set up your Access Control Rules to include the remote users’ networks (IP address and netmask) and allow Web User Portal traffic (You won’t need to allow any other services). If you don’t know each of your remote users’ network details, you can allow Web User Portal for the All Networks rule.

  2. Set Allow NAT Port Forwarding to YES in the Server > Networking > IP Configuration page.

  3. Forward port 443 back to your PBX. http://www.portforward.com is a good resource for documentation on how to forward ports on most routers.

  4. Audio in the app uses ports 10,000-20,000 UDP, so those ports must be correctly set up as well.
