The inbound call rules allow you to manage incoming calls based off of the phone number (DID) that the caller dialed to reach the PBX. You can create two different types of routes; single or ranged DID rules.

  1. The Single Rule allows you to point one DID to any extension on the PBX.

  2. The Ranged Rule allows you to point multiple DID's to multiple extensions on the PBX. For example a range would be 5554441000 - 5554441999

To create a Single Rule, follow the below steps:

  1. From /Admin -> Setup -> Incoming Calls -> Create Single DID Route.

  2. Give it any Rule name

  3. Incoming DID to match: This will be whatever your DID is, it is important to know how many digits the provider is sending. Some providers will send the DID to the PBX with all 10 digits, some will only send the last 7 or the last 3. It is best practice for the customer to contact their provider to determine how many digits they are sending to the PBX. If for example you put in all 10 digits for a DID number but the carrier is only sending over 7, this is not a match and therefore your calls will not route to the selected extension in this route but will go to the callback extension number you setup on that provider.

  4. Incoming Provider: This is how you can specific which provider this DID is coming from.

  5. Incoming Call Type: This will normally be Voice Calls but in certain scenarios you may need to set this to Faxes Only or Voice calls and Faxes. Faxes only will process every call that comes to the PBX from this DID as a fax, this will ensure proper fax detection if this is a fax only line. The Voice calls and Faxes is meant if this line will receive voice calls as well as faxes over this DID.

  6. Extension to Route Calls: Will be the destination extension on the PBX that you wish to route this DID to.

  7. Then just save the rule.

To create a Range rule, follow the below steps:

  1. From /Admin -> Setup -> Incoming Calls -> Create Ranged DID Route

  2. Rule Name: Is whatever you want to call this route.

  3. Beginning Range of Incoming Call: This will be the first (smallest) DID number in your list of DID's (from the above example; 5554441000)

  4. End Range of Incoming Call: This will be the last (highest) DID number in your list of DID's (from the above example; 5554441999)

  5. Incoming Call Type: Same as above under Single Route.

  6. Incoming Provider: Same as above under Single Route.

  7. Number of Digits to trim: Most users want to match up their PBX extensions to their DIDs, Lets say their extension range on the PBX is from 1000-1999, in this box you would put the number '7', this will trim 7 digits from the front of the 10-digit DID and leave just the last 4 (1000-1999). This is not a required field.

  8. Derive Resulting Extension: Extension by adding this to the trimmed call. Enter a value to add to the result or you can leave this blank. This does not prepend.

  9. Then just save the rule.

The order in which the rules are added is important. When an inbound call hits the system it starts at the top of this list to see if it can find a match. If you have duplicate DID routes for the same DID but going to different extensions the highest listed incoming call route will take precedence over the lower listed rule.
