WARNING: Creating a new Channel Group requires a restart to your phone system. Any current phone connections will be dropped and any agents logged in will be logged out.

Below are steps to configure a Bearer BRI Channel Group in Switchvox:

BRI B (Bearer) Channel - Bearer channels are the first two channels on a BRI that actually pass calls.

  1. In Switchvox /admin GUI, go to Setup > Channel Groups

  2. Click "Create Channel Group" button

  3. Group Name (anything you would like to call this group)

  4. Device Type - BRI B (Bearer) Channel

  5. Secondary Device Type - This is usually BRI (Basic Rate ISDN) CPE Side, but you will want to confirm with your provider

  6. You should be able to leave settings under secondary device type as defaults, but you will want to confirm with your provider, especially for PRI/BRI Dialplan and Local Dialplan

  7. Advanced Group Options should be kept default

  8. Choose the first 2 channels (every 3rd channel is for data)

  9. Save Channel Group

Below are steps to configure a Data BRI Channel Group in Switchvox:

BRI D (Data) Channel - The Data channel is the third channel on every BRI that controls signaling.

  1. In Switchvox /admin GUI, go to Setup > Channel Groups

  2. Click "Create Channel Group" button

  3. Group Name (anything you would like to call this group)

  4. Device Type - BRI D (Data) Channel

  5. Secondary Device Type - No signaling (BRI D channel)

  6. Advanced Group Options should be kept default

  7. Choose the first 3rd channel (first 2 channels are for bearer)

  8. Save Channel Group

You will want to go to Server > Connections Status > Hardware Devices to see the current status of your newly created channels.
