If you have a problem sending or receiving faxes with a Diva SDK-based, or CAPI 2.0-based, fax application, try testing with the Diva Utility Testfax to determine if the problem is located within the application or with the Diva Media Board itself.

Where to find Testfax

Testfax.exe is normally provided with the System Release for the Diva Media Boards

How to use Testfax to test outgoing faxes

  • Create a file with Notepad, for example, and type in some text.

  • Save the file in the same folder where Testfax.exe is located on your PC.

  • Open a Command (DOS) prompt and type:

  1. testfax filename <Number>
  • where <Number> is the number of the fax machine that you want to send the file to and "filename" is the name of the text file you have just created.

For example:

  1. testfax myfile.txt 0208123456

NOTE

When sending a fax using a Diva 4BRI (or if you have multiple Media Boards installed), it is necessary in addition to specify the controller

For example:

  1. testfax /c1 filename <Number>

(where 'c1' is controller 1 on the 4BRI card)

  • Typing testfax/? will display the various parameters that can be used.

For example, to send a fax that displays the originating number to the recipient, type:

  1. testfax filename <Number> /o30
  • and replace '30' with the MSN number on the line that you want displayed as the originating number

How to use Testfax to test incoming faxes

  • Open a Command (DOS) prompt and move to the directory where the Testfax software resides

  • Set up the server as a Testfax server by typing:

Testfax /serve

To receive a fax on a specific controller on a 4BRI card (or on a specific card if you have multiple Media Boards installed):

Testfax /serve /c1
  • Successful receipt of a fax is indicated by creation of a file called RCV.SFF in the same folder where Testfax.exe is located.

NOTE

If you receive more than one fax, the RCV.SFF file will be overwritten. Therefore, to confirm that a fax IS received, ensure that you delete the RCV.SFF after you receive each fax.
