Optical Link

The Optical Link object is used to configure the state of the STM-1 optical links. There are two optical interfaces on the rear of the IMG 2020. The first interface is the working (W) interface. The working interface can be used in a standalone configuration where only one optical interface will be used. The IMG 2020 does however support optical interface redundancy. In this scenario, the Working Interface would be the primary interface and the Protection (P) would be the redundant or secondary interface.

The IMG 2020 supports having both a Standalone optical interface and Primary/Redundant interfaces. If just a Standalone interface is needed then the user would create one Optical Link object. This would be the working (W) interface. If however the Redundant scenario is being configured, the following steps would need to be achieved.

  1. When creating the STM-1 Interface object, select Enable from the drop down menu of the APS Configuration field. This allows the user to configure two separate optical links.

  2. Right click on the STM-1 Interface object and select New Optical Link. This creates the Working (W) optical link.

  3. Right click on the STM-1 Interface object again and select New Optical Link again. This creates the Protection (P) optical link. The two redundant links have now been created and will appear in the Configuration tree as Working and Protection links. See information below.

Maximum Objects

If optical link redundancy is not being configured, only one Optical Link object can be created per STM-1 Interface object.

If optical link redundancy is being configured, two Optical Link objects can be created per STM-1 Interface object. (ID:0, ID:1)

Related Topics and Dependencies

The Optical Link object is created when optical link redundancy is needed. Before configuring the optical Link object, verify the APS Configuration field in the Optical Interface object is set to enable. This field enables redundancy to be configured.

Field Descriptions

Link ID

The Link ID is automatically populated with either ID:0 or ID:1. If optical redundancy is being configured, the working interface will be displayed as ID:0 and the Protection Interface will be displayed as ID:1.

When configuring redundancy on the optical interfaces, the APS Configuration field within the STM-1 Interface object must be set to Enabled. When set to enabled, the Link ID: field in the Optical Link object will automatically populate the Working (W) interface with ID:0 and the Protection (P) interface with ID:1. If the APS Configuration field in the STM-1 Interface object is set to Disabled then the ID for the Working (W) interface will default to ID:0 and the ID for the Protection (P) interface will not be populated.

Monitoring Fields

Optical Link Status

Displays the status of the optical link. This field is updated or refreshed when a change is status occurs.

Buttons

Force Link Active - The Force Link Active button is used to manually force either of the optical links to the Active state. For example, clicking on the Force Link Active button of the Backup Optical Link will force the Backup link to the Active state and the Working link will be forced to the Backup state.

In Service - Send a message to the IMG 2020 to bring the optical link In Service.

Out Of Service - Send a message to the IMG 2020 to take the optical link Out Of Service.
