Configure Facilities

 

 

The IMG 2020 gives the customer the ability to choose which type of interface will be used to communicate with outside networks. The IMG 2020 supports two types of I/O's. The diagram below displays the IMG 2020 with an I/O that supports three DS3 interfaces, four T1/E1 RJ-48 interfaces, and two optical interfaces (Working and Protection). Follow the instructions just below the diagram which describe how to configure each of the different interfaces using the Web GUI application.

 

 

Configure DS-3 Interfaces along with DS-1 Spans

The section below describes how to configure the three DS3 interfaces. At this point, the T1/E1 profile objects have already been created in the Basic Configurations topic and they will be utilized when configuring the DS3 interfaces.

  1. Right click on the IMG 2020 object and select New Facility. The facility object is a container or parent object and no configuration is needed here.

  2. Right click on the Facility object and select New DS3/Optical Mode. It is at this point that the decision is made to use either the Optical Interfaces or the DS-3 interfaces. If the Optical interfaces will be used, select Optical from drop down menu in the Facility Type field. If the three DS-3 interfaces will be used, select DS-3 from drop down menu in the Facility Type Configuration field.

  3. Right click on the DS3/Optical Mode object and select New DS-3 Interface. There are three DS3 interfaces on rear of IMG 2020, select which interface to use from the Interface ID field drop down menu. The Interface ID's range from 0-2. Refer to the DS-3 Interface topic for more information on configuring this object.

  4. Right click on the DS-3 Interface ID:0 object just created and select New DS-3 TDM Bearer Spans. Select the Starting Offset and Ending Offset (DS-1's) from the drop down menus of the Starting and Ending Offset fields.

  5. In the Profile Name field is a drop down menu displaying a list of all the T1 or E1 profiles created in the IMG 1010 - Basic Configuration topic. Select the profile that will be associated with the DS-1 spans. Refer to the DS-1 Spans topic for more information on configuring this object.

  6. DS3 Interface ID:0 and the individual DS-1's have been created. Repeat steps 2-4 to create DS3 Interfaces ID:1 and ID:2. Below is screen capture displaying the DS3 Facility tree once all interfaces are configured.

 

Configuring Optical Interfaces with DS3 mapping

The section below describes the steps needed to configure the Optical Interfaces. At this point the T1/E1 profile objects have already been created in the Basic Configurations topic and will be utilized when configuring the Optical interfaces. The instructions below describe configuring an Optical Interface when the Optical Configuration selected is utilizing a DS3 mapping scenario.

  1. Right click on the IMG 2020 object and select New Facility. The facility object is a container or parent object and no configuration is needed here. Refer to the Facility topic for more information.

  2. Right click on the Facility object and select New DS3/Optical Mode. It is at this point that the decision is made to use either the Optical Interfaces or the DS3 interfaces. If the Optical interfaces will be used, select Optical from drop down menu in the Facility Type field. If the three DS-3 interfaces will be used, select DS-3 from drop down menu in the Facility Type Configuration field. Select Optical.

  3. Right click on the DS-3/Optical Mode object and select New STM-1 Interface. Within the Optical Configuration field, choose the selection that maps the spans within the optical stream with a DS-3 format. Refer to the STM-1 Interface topic for more information on configuring the individual fields within this object. 
    Note: If both the working and protection optical ports will be utilized, select Enabled from drop down menu of the APS Configuration field. Failure to enable Automatic Protection Switching will result in not being able to create the protection port through the Web GUI. Refer to the STM-1 Interface topic for more info.

  4. Right click on the STM-1 Interface object and select New Optical Link. This will create theWorkinglink. After committing the object, the optical link will automatically come in service as long as the network is cabled correctly. Refer to the Optical Link topic for more information on configuring this object.

  5. Right click on the STM-1 Interface object and select New Optical Link again. This will create theProtectionlink. After committing the object, the optical protection link will automatically come in service as long as the network is cabled correctly. Refer to the Optical Link topic for more information on configuring this object.

  6. Right click on the STM-1 Interface object again and select New DS-3 Interface. The DS-3 object that gets created will be the equivalent of one DS-3 worth of spans. The Interface ID will default to ID:3 indicating it is a DS3 map of spans within the optical stream. The ID starts with ID:3 because ID's 0-2 are reserved for the physical DS3 Interfaces on the rear of the IMG 2020. ID's 3-5 are reserved for DS3 over optical. Refer to the DS-3 Interface topic for more information on configuring this object.

  7. Right click on the DS-3 Interface:3 object created and select New DS-3 Optical Bearer Spans. Select the Starting and Ending Offsets and the profile that will be utilized for these spans. Refer to the DS-1 Spans topic for more information on configuring the individual fields.

  8. Within the DS-1 object pane is an Object Table Tab located towards the bottom of the Web GUI. Click on the Object Table tab and each of the individual DS-1's will be displayed. Click on one of the DS-1's and a Span ID:<x>pane will appear. Within this object, Loop Timing, Loopback Mode, and Logical Span Status can be configured on each individual DS-1. Refer to the DS-1 Service State Specifications topics for more information on configuring this pane.

  9. Repeat steps 6-8 for and create the remaining two DS3 interfaces. They will be given ID:4 and ID:5 and will be a DS3 mapping of spans within the optical stream. Below is screen capture displaying the Optical Facility tree once all interfaces are configured.

 

Configuring Optical Interfaces with Channelized mapping (E1 Only)

The section below describes the steps needed to configure the optical interfaces using E1 Channelized mapping. At this point the T1/E1 profile objects have already been created in the Basic Configurations topic and they will be utilized when configuring. The procedure below describes configuring an Optical Interface when the Optical Configuration selected is utilizing the channelized mapping scenario.

  1. Right click on the IMG 2020 object and select New Facility. The facility object is a container or parent object and no configuration is needed here. Refer to the Facility  topic for more information.

  2. Right click on the Facility object and select New DS3/Optical Mode. It is at this point that the decision is made to use either the Optical Interfaces or the DS3 interfaces. If the Optical interfaces will be used, select Optical from drop down menu in the Facility Type field. If the three DS-3 interfaces will be used, select DS-3 from drop down menu in the Facility Type Configuration field. Select Optical.

  3. Right click on the DS-3/Optical Mode object and select New STM-1 Interface. Within the Optical Configuration field, choose the selection that maps the spans within the optical stream with E1 Channelized mapping format. Refer to the STM-1 Interface topic for more information on choosing the correct mapping scheme and also to configure each of the individual field within this object.
    Note: If both the working and protection optical ports will be utilized, select Enabled from drop down menu of the APS Configuration field. Failure to enable Automatic Protection Switching will result in not being able to create the protection port in ClientView. See Optical Interface topic for more info.

  4. Right click on the STM-1 Interface object and select New Optical Link. This will create theWorkinglink. After committing the object, the working optical link will automatically come in service. Refer to the Optical Link topic for more information on configuring this object.

  5. Right click on the STM-1 Interface object and select New Optical Link again. This will create theProtectionlink. After committing the object, the optical protection link will automatically come in service. Refer to the Optical Link topic for more information on configuring this object.

  6. Right Click on the STM-1 Interface object and select New DS-3 Optical Bearer Spans. A DS-1 Spans object will get created. With the Channelized mapping, the range of spans differ from that of the DS3 mapping above. Refer to the STM-1 Interface topic for more information on mapping scenarios. Below is screen capture displaying the tree in the Web GUI when completed.

 

Configure the RJ48 T1/E1 Interfaces

The section below describes the steps needed to configure the four RJ48 T1/E1 interfaces on the rear of the IMG 2020. The procedure below is the same for both T1 or E1. At this point the T1/E1 profiles objects have already been created in the Basic Configurations topic and they will be utilized when configuring the individual DS1's.

  1. Right click on the IMG 2020 object and select New Facility. The facility object is a container or parent object and no configuration is needed here. Refer to the Facility topic for more information.

  2. Right click on the facility object and select New DS-1 Spans. A DS-1 Spans object is created. The range of offsets is from 0-3. Any or all of the offsets can be used as long as the capacity of the licensing will allow it. Select a Starting and Ending Offset/DS-1.

  3. Select from the T1 or E1 Span Profile from the drop down menu of the Profile Namefield. Below is screen capture displaying the tree in the Web GUI when completed. Refer to the DS-1 Spans topic for more information on configuring the DS-1 Spans object.
