Installing the SBC software on the Multi-Platform Appliance

PRE-REQUISITES

  • If digital Gateway capabilities are desired: PCIe digital telephony card (1E1 or 2E1 ports) inserted into one of the two PCIe ports available in the appliance as this provides the actual PRI ports to the appliance for interconnecting with the PSTN

  • SBC Software (NSC) commercial License (you can still install and start using the software without license but you will only be able to process up to 2 simultaneous calls before the commercial License is installed)

  • USB drive (could be a "pendrive"/ "flashdrive") of at least 4GB of capacity

  • USB Keyboard and VGA Monitor connected to the Multi-Platform appliance

  • Multi-Platform appliance connected to the network via an Ethernet cable on its first RJ45 network port from the left (port is labeled: "0" )

Download the software and transfer it to a USB drive

1. Download the SBC (NSC) latest unattended ISO from here (example: https://ftp.sangoma.com/nsc/2.3/unattended/nsc-2.3.29-133-GA-unattended.iso )

2. Transfer the downloaded .iso file to a USB drive and have it be bootable. For this you may use Rufus (https://rufus.ie/) for example; follow this guide starting on Step 2 if needed --- WARNING: please be aware that the USB drive will get completely wiped out so please backup any important data first

Install the software onto the appliance

3. Insert the bootable USB drive into a free USB port on your Multi-Platform appliance and boot the appliance

4. Installation should automatically proceed on the monitor connected to the VGA port on the appliance. If not, please make sure the USB drive is selected as the first Boot Option in the appliance's BIOS:

  • Power on the Appliance and press the delete key as soon as you see the following screen:

  • This will take you into the appliance's BIOS

  • Navigate to the Boot tab as seen below and set the USB drive to be the first Boot option #1 under Boot Option Priorities.

  • Press F10 on your keyboard to save and confirm your changes, which will reboot the Appliance.

  • As the Appliance reboots it will boot from the USB drive and it will start installation automatically without any manual intervention

5. After a few minutes, the unattended installation should complete. It comes wit the following default parameters:

  • Static IP address: 192.168.168.2

  • Username for Console and webUI access: root

  • Password for Console and webUI access: sangoma

6. If you would prefer to receive the IP address via DHCP, execute the following commands in the appliance's Console using the connected keyboard and monitor:

echo "BOOTPROTO=dhcp" >> /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0

service network restart

And have the assigned IP address be displayed on screen by executing:

ifconfig eth0

7. You can now start using the Multi-Platform Appliance as an SBC. To visit its web configuration interface (webUI), just point your web browser to the IP address obtained in steps 5-6 above; from there you can start configuring your new SBC. Please refer to its wiki for its complete documentation.
