Outbound Faxes
When you send an outbound fax, it is received by the FAXStation CPE device, then relayed to the FAXStation platform for delivery on the PSTN to the number you dialed. Some common reasons why your fax might not be successful and ways to resolve include:
FAXStation CPE
This is the fax session between your fax machine and the FAXStation CPE
Problem | Solution |
No dialtone | Check the phone cable between your fax machine LINE port and FAXStation CPE port |
No fax answer | If your CPE just finished sending an inbound fax to you, or you just completed an outbound fax, the CPE may not be immediately ready to receive a new fax. Wait a few seconds, then retry. |
Fax error | Fax protocol errors should not happen between the fax machine and FAXStation CPE. If you experience any sort of error of this nature, please reach out to support for assistance. |
FAXStation Platform
This is the fax session between the FAXStation platform and the destination fax number. If an outbound fax fails to deliver, you will receive a return page from the FAXStation platform
Problem | Solution |
No answer | The number the fax was sent to was called, but not answered |
No carrier | The number the fax was sent to was called and answered, but there was not a fax machine on the other side. This is typically a 'wrong number' scenario where the destination is a normal voice line |
Busy | The destination number the fax was sent to was busy |
Other | Faxes can fail on the PSTN for a multitude of reasons. Typically, the primary reason is poor audio quality between sender and receiver. This can be a symptom of poor lines at the receiver, the receiving party trying to fax over VoIP (straight media, no T.38), or a poorly implemented T.38 solution. The FAXStation platform utilizes only TDM connectivity for outbound fax delivery, with a 99.9% daily reliability rate of delivery. We of course have no control over the receiving end of the fax session. |
