Initial Cbeyond Configuration

Step-By-Step VoIP Account Setup

Configuring your PBXtra , for use with Cbeyond’s BeyondVoice with SIPconnect is surprisingly simple. Below are the requisite steps:

  1. From the Fonality administration menu, go to the “Options” tab and select the “voip” link.

  2. Locate the Provider field and select "CBeyond (Location)" where "Location" is the Cbeyond SIPConnect location you will be connecting to. If you do not know which location is assigned to your account refer to the associations below or ask your Cbeyond service coordinator.

“atl” for Atlanta (sipconnect.atl0.cbeyond.net)
“lax” for Los Angeles (sipconnect.lax0.cbeyond.net)
“hou” for Houston (sipconnect.hou0.cbeyond.net)
“dal” for Dallas (sipconnect.dal0.cbeyond.net)
“den” for Denver (sipconnect.dal0.cbeyond.net)
“chi” for Chicago (sipconnect.chi0.cbeyond.net)
“sdg” for San Diego (sipconnect.sdg0.cbeyond.net)
“det” for Detroit (sipconnect.det0.cbeyond.net)

  1. Locate the Username and Password Enter the “Username” and “Password” that are supplied to you by your Cbeyond service coordinator. Cbeyond refers to them as the “PBX Username” and the “PBX Password”. Note that the “Username” is typically your ten digit billing telephone number.

  2. Locate the Server field. Verify the “SIPconnect Domain” that is supplied to you by your Cbeyond service coordinator in the Server field. This field is specific to your market and should be auto-populated if you select the correct marked in step 2 above.

  3. Click the plus sign next to Advanced. Verify that your Register String contains your Route Name

  4. Click on the Add VoIP Account pushbutton.

  5. Cbeyond has changed their requirements regarding outbound proxy.
It now must be set to sip-proxy.[TrunkGroup].cbeyond<wbr/>.net
(TrunkGroup meaning la, atl, dal, den, chi, etc)
Using the old documentation where it would be the sipconnect.[TrunkGroup].cbeyon<wbr/>d.net; the trunk will register, inbound and outbound will work, but all inbound calls route as the BTN/Account Number(username for trunk).
DID routing will only occur in our system if the INVITE is sent from the sip-proxy.[TrunkGroup].cbeyond<wbr/>.net

Cbeyond SIP PROXY Settings

Your SIP Proxy settings should match those in the screenshot below:

Notice the Outbound Proxy field in the right column.  You would change the lax0 portion to match your Server in the top right-hand section of this image.  The list of Cbeyond servers is given in Step #2 of Step-by-Step VoIP Setup above.

Primary DNS Server Requirement

In order to have maximum uptime, you should make the PBX phone system the primary DNS server for your network.

Read the Primary DNS Server Requirement section of the Install Guide to learn more.

General Installation Information

If your PBX has not yet been installed, or you are a new customer, you must read the Install Guide to ensure your setup goes smoothly!

Remote Phones

If you would like to use remote phones with our Cbeyond account, you will have to use a customer provided firewall (not the firewall Cbeyond provides.) The firewall provided by Cbeyond is a great firewall for all other purposes, however, PBXtra and the CBeyond firewill together do not allow remote phone capabilities.

Just like with any remote phone setup, you should read our Remote Phone article to ensure your firewall is properly setup for remote phone use.

Caller-ID Requirement

Some VoIP carries (and other service providers such as T1/PRIs) require that you send a caller ID number that you own. This means the if you place a call with your Cbeyond account you have to make sure it's sending a caller ID number provided to you by Cbeyond.

There are a few ways to setup caller ID so that you can place outbound calls with your Cbeyond account. Choose whichever method best suits your business needs:

Setup Global Caller ID

You can setup global caller ID so that all extensions show the same caller ID.

  1. Login to your Admin Panel.

  2. Click "Extensions -> phone numbers".

  3. Locate the Number field, enter the number provided by Cbeyond.

  4. Click Add Phone Number.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all your numbers have been added.

  6. Click the "Options -> settings" tab.

  7. Locate the Global Caller-ID field. Select the number you wish people to see when you place an outbound call.

  8. Click Apply Changes.

Setup Caller ID For An Individual Extension

You can set up a caller ID for a specific extension so that it shows a different number when you place an outbound call from that extension. This will override the global caller ID for this extension.

  1. Follow steps 1 - 5 in "Setup Global Caller ID", above.

  2. Click "Extensions -> view extension".

  3. Click the extension number you would like to set the caller ID for.

  4. Locate the Outbound Caller-ID field, select the caller ID number you would like to use.

  5. Click Apply Changes.

Troubleshooting

Remote Phones

If you cannot place or receive calls using remote phones then do the following:

  1. See the Remote Phones section of this article for a note about customer provided firewalls.

  2. See the Remote Phones article for specific information. You will need to make sure your network is setup to handle remote phone traffic.

Outbound Calls Do Not Work

Make sure your outbound caller ID is set

If you are having trouble placing outbound call, it is most likely a caller ID issue. See Caller-ID Requirement above.

Make sure you have your route name in your registration string

These value in your Route Name field should match the value after the "@" sign in your registration string. See the image below:
