How do you create a ranged incoming call rule?

To setup an Incoming DID Route for a range of phone numbers (a block of sequential numbers) to an extension number that is derived from the phone number itself. This is useful if you would like to route calls directly to extensions numbers from the incoming phone number. The extension numbers in the range must all be sequential and not skip any numbers.

Go to Setup > Call Routing: Incoming Calls > Create Ranged DID Rule:

For example:

All Voice Calls on numbers from Channel Group T1 ranging from 8005551200 through 8005551300 will route to an extension derived by trimming 7 digits from the front and adding 0 to the result. This will result in a 3 digit extension.
In the above example, the block of DIDs ending in 1200 through 1300 (inclusive) are coming in from the Provider.
If the number 8005551250 comes in, Switchvox will trim the first 7 digits (this will trim 8005551) and route the call to extension 250.
If the Incoming number 8005551300 comes into the system the ranged rule would send it to extension 300.

Important Note!! If the carrier is prepending a 1 to the incoming DID number, you will have to trim 8 digits to get a 3 digit extension number. To determine how many digits are being sent in from the carrier, go to Reporting > Call Logs > select All Calls > click View Logs. You can view the specific call details by clicking on the notepad icon and it will show the Incoming description: Received call over phone number (18005551200). As you can see, this includes the prepended 1 and you must trim 8 digits to get a 3 digit extension number. If not, the call will not match any extension number and will use the Default Incoming Call Rule to send the call to the Callback Extension instead. Sometimes, you will see that the Provider only passes the last 4 or 5 digits of the DID and you must take that into account when you trim the numbers in the Incoming Call Rule, since you are not getting all 10 digits.

To get an extension number that is not based on the last 4 digits of the DID, you can add a number to the field: Derive Resulting Extension by adding this to the trimmed call (enter a number that will be added to the DID).
For example, if the number 8005551250 comes in and if you want it to go to the extension 4250, you trim 6 digits from the number and the number to add to the trimmed result should be 4000  (4000+250=4250).

The important thing to understand is the system actually uses addition to get the resulting extension number.

Here are the steps to create a Ranged Incoming Call Rule:

  1. Go to Setup > Call Routing: Incoming Calls

  2. Click Create Ranged DID Route

  3. Enter the Beginning Range of Incoming Call (the first number of your block of phone numbers)

  4. Enter the End Range of Incoming Call (NOTE: number range must be sequential and cannot skip any numbers within the range)

  5. Choose Incoming Call Type: Voice Calls, Faxes, or Voice Calls and Fax

  6. Choose the Incoming Provider, or you may leave at Any Provider (the call should come in through the correct Provider connection)

  7. Number of digits to trim... Enter the Number of digits to trim from the beginning of the DID (remember to include the 1 if it is being passed by the Provider)

  8. Derive Resulting Extension ... Enter the number you want to add to the trimmed result (remember this is actually using addition, not appending a number)

  9. Save Ranged DID Route
