SS7 - Circuit Group under Signaling
Â
Â
The SS7 Circuit Group is a collection of DS-1's and DS-0's that are configured by a user as a CIC Group. These CIC groups all reside on one specific node. The SS7 Circuit Group has a starting and ending Span/Channel (DS-1/DS-0). Each Span/Channel combination is assigned a CIC number and the IMG 2020 references them as CIC numbers. To create an SS7 Circuit Group, right click on an ISUP Group object and select New SS7 Circuit Group. See below for more information.
The SS7 Circuit group needs to be configured in two places. The first is this object which is configured under the SS7 stack. The second place is under the Channel Group object. Refer to the Related Topics and Dependencies section below.

Related Topics and Dependencies
The SS7 Circuit Group is configured twice within the Web GUI. First, the SS7 Circuit Group or Groups are configured under the ISUP Group object. Multiple SS7 Circuit Groups can be configured under the ISUP Group. Once the SS7 Circuit Group is created, the circuit group must be linked to either an incoming or outgoing Channel Group. To do this, a second Circuit Group is created under a Channel Group being configured for the SS7 protocol. Right click on the SS7 Channel Group and select New Circuit Group. In this Circuit Group object, select the Span/Channels that will be utilized in that specific channel group. Â

Field Descriptions
Node Name
The Node Name field has a drop down menu that displays the node configured in the Web GUI. This will be the node that the Circuit Group is created on.
Start Span
Select from drop down menu the starting or first span within the SS7 Circuit Group being created. The available spans are displayed in the drop down menu.
The interfaces on the rear of the IMG 2020 include specific ranges of spans. For example, spans 0-3 utilize the four T1/E1 RJ48 interfaces on the rear of the unit. When selecting Circuit Groups, refer to the DS-1 Spans topic for a table displaying how each span is mapped to an interface. This will be useful when creating SS7 Circuit groups and CICs.
Start Channel
Select from drop down menu the starting or first channel within the SS7 Circuit Group being created. The available channels for the span selected in the Start Span field above are displayed in the drop down menu.
End Span
Select from drop down menu the ending or last span within the SS7 Circuit Group being created. The available spans are displayed in the drop down menu.
End Channel
Select from drop down menu the ending or last channel within the SS7 Circuit Group being created. The available channels for the span selected in the End Span field above are displayed in the drop down menu.
Start CIC
Enter a numerical value in the Start CIC field. This will be the starting CIC number. The IMG 2020 will automatically number the rest of the CICs being configured in a sequential manner. When creating more than one CIC group, verify there is no overlap of CIC numbers.
Skip Channel 16 (Default - False)
When configuring SS7 using the E1 protocol, channel 16 can either be reserved for signaling or not used. If out of band signaling is configured on channel 16 or the channel is not configured as a CIC, the CIC numbering will no longer match the time-slot numbering. The next two fields work toward alleviating the issue. The skip channel 16 field is supported in E1 protocol only.
False (Do Not Skip Channel 16)
The default value for this field is false. When false is selected channel 16 and each multiple of 16 will not be skipped when the CICs are assigned to the time-slots. By selecting False, a CIC will be assigned to channel 16. The table below displays how CIC numbering would occur if false was selected. (CIC #16 is assigned to time-slot 16)
Â
Channel | CIC Number |
15 | 15 |
16 | 16 |
17 | 17 |
True (Skip Channel 16)
When true is selected from the drop down menu, channel 16 and each multiple of 16 will be skipped when CICs are being assigned to time-slots as displayed in table below. Also, when true is selected a subsequent field will appear. TheNon-Contiguous CIC Numberingfield allows the IMG 2020 to configure CIC numbers so they can be mapped to the timeslots. Refer to theNon-Contiguous CIC Numberingsection below for more information. Â Refer to table below.
Channel | CIC Number |
15 | 15 |
16 | Not Used |
17 | 17 |
Non-Contiguous CIC Numbering. (Default = False)
When the Skip Channel 16 field is set to true the Non-Contiguous CIC numbering field will appear as displayed below:
False - When False is selected the CIC numbering is contiguous and does not skip CIC number 16. In this scenario the CIC number and Channel number will not be the same. See screen capture below
True - When True is selected the CIC numbering is non-contiguous and CIC #16 is not created. See in screen capture below that in order to keep the CIC numbering and channel numbering equal, CIC 16 is not configured.
Object Table
The Object Table displays the state of all the CICs within the CIC group.
