Diva SoftIP Hints and Tips
Â
Â
How to check that Diva SoftIP-SIP is workingÂ
SoftIP will not make calls to itself so you cannot use the Loopback Test in the Diva Line Test Phone/Loop tab with SoftIP-SIP.Â
Dialogic recommends that you use a soft-phone to perform a basic test of your SoftIP-SIP installation
You can use a soft-phone installed on the same PC as SoftIP-SIP.
You can use a soft-phone on another PC
You do not need a SIP registrar or proxy to do the test - you can make direct calls incoming and outgoing
If you wish to use a SIP proxy/registrar, please use this procedure to register SoftIP-SIP with the proxy/registrar.
Running a soft-phone on the same PC as SoftIP-SIPÂ
If the soft-phone is on the same PC as SoftIP-SIP, then only one of them can use the default 5060 port
For example, SJ Phone automatically switches to using port 1000 if it finds another application using port 5060
Some soft-phones may be difficult to configure for another port, so you may need to reconfigure SoftIP-SIP to use another port (such as 1000)
Open Dialogic Diva Configuration Manager
Select the 'IP' icon next to 'Lines'Â
Select the View > Advanced option to make more parameters visible in the right-hand panelÂ
Set the parameter 'Own port number' for SoftIPÂ
Click the 'Activate' button in the toolbarÂ
Click 'OK' to acknowledge the dialog box
Click 'No' when invited to reboot the PC
You do not have to reboot to make SoftIP use the new configuration - instead, you should stop and start the DISIP service.
Testing inbound calls to SoftIP-SIP from a soft-phoneÂ
Run Line Test from the Dialogic Diva program group
Select the Phone/Loop tab and check 'Enable incoming calls'.Â
NOTE
'enter your own number for a loopback test' does not apply to SoftIP-SIP.
SoftIP-SIP will answer all SIP calls received on its configured port (default 5060)
SoftIP-SIP does not automatically configure the XP or Windows 2003 firewall
to receive incoming calls in SoftIP-SIP from another PC you must manually configure the firewall
allow connections using the port configured for SoftIP (default 5060)
if you call from a soft-phone on the same PC as SoftIP but make the call using a phone number via a proxy/registrar, then you will need to
make an entry for the SoftIP SIP port in the firewall to receive the incoming call
If the IP address of the PC running SoftIP is 192.168.1.10 then you should be able to make a direct PC-to-PC SIP call from the soft-phone to the following SIP URI: 123@192.168.1.10:5060.Â
If this fails when the soft-phone is on another PC, check the firewall on the PC running SoftIP.Â
If your soft-phone does not allow you to make a direct PC-to-PC call, but requires you to use a proxy/registrar so that you can use a phone number to call to SoftIP, then please use this procedure to register SoftIP with the proxy/registrar.Â
Â
Testing outbound calls from SoftIP-SIP to a soft-phoneÂ
This procedure uses a direct PC-to-PC SIP call, with no proxy/registrar required.
You must create a phone number mapping for the destination soft-phone's SIP address
You must find out the soft-phone's IP address
You must find out the port number that the soft-phone is using, especially if it is running on the same PC as SoftIP.
Â
If the soft-phone is on IP address 192.168.1.10 and is using port 1000, then create a phone number mapping in Dialogic Diva Configuration Manager > Tools > SoftIP Phone Number Mapping:
Phone number: 1000
SIP address: 1000@192.168.1.10
Port: 1000
Â
Now, using the Dialogic Diva Line Test tool, you should be able to make a call to phone number 1000.Â
