Configure Outbound CNAME
CNAME – is an abbreviation for Canonical Name Record. This is a Feature that would allow a Customer's Account Number(s) to Translate over to a Caller ID Name – which would be displayed on a Customer's Outbound Call.
This is a Feature that is only offered to customers who are on Connect Hosted Platform or Premise Flasheart PBXtra that uses Fonality VOIP as their VOIP Trunk.
When an Outbound CNAME is requested by a Customer who is on one of the previous mentioned Platforms – the actual CNAME procedure is conducted on Fonality's Carrier side of things. An Outbound CNAME process can take anywhere between 7 – 30 Business Days to apply for each Account Number.
For Example:
If Customer – Mary Jane requested for an Outbound CNAME of “MJ Insurance” to be applied to her Account Number – 212-662-XXXX – When the CNAME has been updated for this Number – the Outbound Caller ID would translate over to
“MJ Insurance” or “MJ Insurance 212-662-XXXX”.
An Outbound CNAME Feature would typically only work to other Carriers who also buy into the National CNAME Databases. With this being said – CNAME would generally not work with Outbound Calls going to different Cellphone Providers because most Cellphone Providers do not buy into the CNAME Databases.
Outbound CNAME can not be applied for Toll Free and non-US numbers.
