Configure network settings - How do I?
When you install a new PBXtra , you should use the DHCP provided by your router to allow the server to get an IP Address and connect with Fonality's Data Center. Once you can login to the Admin Panel, Fonality recommends you configure a static IP on your server via the Options --> network page.
Â
If your server shipped with more than one network interface card, the Options --> network page will automatically detect both NICs and allow you to configure each independently. However, you cannot add a NIC to your server after the system has been installed. The new NIC will not be detected and you will not be able to configure it. Â
Click on Options --> network
Always leave Revert If Error set to "yes". This setting prevents you from making a configuration error that would render your system unreachable from the Local Area Network.
Under the IP Configuration Settings section, first choose from either Static or DHCP in the IP Address Mode drop-down menu.
Static - you must manually enter all of the IP information for the system.
DHCP - the system will automatically receive IP Addressing information from your network's DHCP server.
Under DNS Settings, enter a Primary and Alternate DNS server.
Â
NOTE: Fonality Tech Support and Sales staff will tell you that all of your phones must use the PBXtra as the Primary DNS server - this is true. However, your PBXtra needs to use some other DNS server as its own Primary DNS server. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of DNS, think of every computer on the Internet as one link in a long chain. The DNS server used by each device should be the next link in the chain. If any two devices use each other for DNS, the chain stops, and the Internet becomes unavailable.
