Generic Number Translation

The IMG 2020 supports translating incoming and outgoing translations for the purpose of routing calls. The IMG 2020 supports matching the Dialed,Originating, or Generic Number and translating them into one of the following parameters: Dialed #, Originating #, Billing #, Info Digits, or Carrier #. The Generic Number Translation feature adds the SS7 call message Generic Number Parameter into multiple aspects of the Incoming/Outgoing Translation Table Object. Below describes the functionality of the Generic Number Translation Parameter.

  • The Generic Number Parameter was added to the String to Match field in both the Incoming and Outgoing Translation Table Entry Objects. By adding this parameter, the IMG 2020 can route a call based on the value of the Generic Number Parameter which is embedded in the incoming ISUP messaging.

  • The Generic Number Parameter can now also be translated. A Generic # Translation Field was added to the Incoming\Outgoing Translation Table Entry object. By adding this field, the IMG 2020 can now match on an incoming Originating Number, Dialed Number, or Generic Number. The matched string can now be translated and sent to the Generic Number Parameter portion of ISUP messaging. The ISUP messaging is then interworked to the outgoing protocol.

  • The Generic Number Parameter was added to the Re-Run Option within the Incoming/Outgoing Translation Table entry object. By adding the Generic Number Parameter the IMG 2020 can first match and translate a Dialed or Originating Number. Once this is accomplished and the Re-Run Option is set to Generic Number, the IMG 2020 will then search the translation table entries for another entry with the String to Match field set to Generic Number. Once it finds the correct entry, the Generic Number is then translated again to a Dialed Number, Originating Number, Generic Number, Billing Number, Info Digits, or Carrier Number.

  • The Advanced Generic Number Translation pane allows the IMG 2020 the ability to translate individual portions of the Generic Number Parameter. Information such as Nature of Address and Numbering Plan embedded in the Generic Number Parameter can now be translated.

All configurations below utilize the Incoming Translation Table. This configuration can be executed on the Outgoing Translation Table as well. The procedure below configures the Generic Number Translation functionality to be used in an SS7 to SIP configuration.

Procedure

Initial Configuration

The procedure below assumes the basic functionality as well as SS7 signaling has been created and configured. Before proceeding, refer to the Basic Configurations and Configure SS7 topics if this functionality has not been configured.

Configure SS7 Channel Group

  • Right click on the Dialogic object and select New Routing Configuration. The Routing Configuration object is a parent or container object and no configuration is needed here. Refer to the Routing Configuration topic for more information on this object.

  • Right click on Routing Configuration and select New Channel Groups. The Channel Groups object is a parent or container object and no configuration is needed here. Refer to the Channel Groups topic for more information on this object.

  • Right click on the Channel Groups object and select New Channel Group. A Channel Group object will appear. Either enter a Name that identifies this channel group or accept the default name already entered.

  • Select SS7_ISUP from drop down menu in the Signaling Type field. Refer to the Channel Group topic for more information on configuring the SS7 Channel Group.

  • Right click on the Channel Group object created and select New Circuit Group. Select from the drop down menus the Node that the CICs will reside on as well as the Starting and Ending DS-1/DS-0 that the CICs will be configured on. Create as many CIC or Circuit Groups needed.

  • Once the Channel Group configuration has been achieved, click back onto the Channel Groups object. This object will now display an exclamation point in the icon indicating the configuration has not been sent to the IMG 2020. Click on the Download Resource Table button and the configuration will be sent to the IMG 2020.

Configure Generic Number Parameter in Translation Table Entries

  • Right click on Routing Configuration and select New Incoming Translation Tables. A Incoming Translation Tables object will appear. This object is a placeholder for multiple Incoming Translation Tables. No configuration is completed in this object.

  • Right click on Incoming Translation Tables and select New Translation Table. Enter a name for this translation table. In this example it is labeled Inc_TT1.

  • Right click on the translation table object just created and select New Translation Element. In the object that appears select Generic Number from drop down menu in the String to Match field and enter a string to match in the String field. To translate the Generic Number enter a value in the Generic # Translation field. Refer to screen capture below.

Refer to the Translation Element - Incoming topic for more information on configuring the Incoming Translation Table Entry.

Advanced Generic Number Translation

To translate other aspects of the Generic Number such as Nature Of Address and Numbering Plan, a translation profile with the entries must be created and then linked to the Translation Element configured above. Follow instructions below to accomplish this.

  • Right click on the Profiles object and select New Translation Profiles. The Translation Profiles object is a parent or container object. No configuration is needed here. Refer to the Translation Profiles topic for more information on this object.

  • Right click on the Translation Profiles object and select New Translation Profile. Either accept the default Name given to this profile or enter a new name that will identify this profile. In this example the profile was labeled Trans_Profile1_Gen_Num.

  •  Right click on the Translation Profile object and select New Advanced Generic Number Parameter. Configure one or more parameters from this object. Refer to the Advanced Generic Number Translation topic for more information on this object.

  • Click back onto the Translation Element created earlier. In the Translation Profile field select the Translation Profile created. Refer to screen capture below.

  • Click back to the translation table object. The translation table icon displays a yellow exclamation point indicating the configuration has not been sent. Click on the Download Translation Table button and the configuration will get sent to the IMG 2020.

Re-Run Option

The Generic Number Parameter was added to the Re-Run Option within the Incoming/Outgoing Translation Table entry object. By adding the Generic Number Parameter, the IMG 2020 can first match and translate a Dialed or Originating Number.

  • Create a Translation Element by following procedure above except leave the String to Match as either Dialed Number or Originating Number and select Generic Number from the Re-Run Option field. See screen capture below.

  • Create a second Translation Element with the String to Match field set to Generic Number. With the rerun option configured in the first Translation Entry set to Generic Number, the IMG 2020 will find this entry. Once the entry is found the IMG 2020 will do whatever the second Translation Entry instructs it to do. In this example, the second entry will match the Generic Number of 555& and translate it to 999&. See screen capture below displaying the second translation entry.

  • Send the updated Translation Element information to the IMG 2020 by clicking on the Translation Table object again and click on the Download Translation Table button again. This will send the updated translation table information.

  • Once the Translation Table and its elements have been created, they can now be inserted into an SS7 Channel Group. Open the SS7 Channel Group created earlier in this document and select the Translation table just created from the Incoming Translation table fields drop down menu. See screen capture below.

  • Above is a very basic example of using the Re-Route Option with the Generic Number Translation Parameter. There are many other ways to use this functionality. This procedure is created to explain the basics on how the Re-Route Option can be utilized with the Generic Number Parameter.

  • Below is screen shot of the tree displayed in the Web GUI after configuring the Generic Number Translation feature.

Additional Information

  • The Generic Number Parameter is present only in SS7 IAM message.
